Job Description

This position will be the primary contact for academic advising toward graduation for all undergraduate students at S&T. This person will initiate contact with each undergraduate junior/senior level student to discuss their academic plan and how to reach their graduation goals. This position will be working with the retention committee to increase retention for undergraduate students.

This position will also coordinate and implement the new academic planner software used to track graduation requirements. In addition this staff member will work with various offices on campus to ensure proper graduation requirements and tracking are in place and consistent across campus. The staff member will be responsible for training new faculty advisors on how to use the Degree Audit report and new software to ensure they are knowledgeable about the campus, their department and advising students. This position will develop training material and coordinate campus departmental training on a yearly basis.

The Degree Completion Specialist will assist Financial Aid with their Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) procedure to ensure that students failing to meet SAP, have a targeted academic plan to get back on track with graduation. This position will be the first step in the withdrawal process to work with the student to determine the best course of action and whether withdrawal is the right step. If so, then as part of the withdrawal process, the staff member will work with the student to complete an exit survey so that we can gain insight on why students are leaving this institution.

As the Degree Completion Specialist, this person will be responsible for maintaining all Graduate Forms submitted from the Office of Graduate Studies. This will require communication with the Office of Graduate Studies to ensure they are processed correctly and in a timely manner.

As part of the transfer team within the Registrar’s Office the Degree Completion Specialist will assist with entering International Transfer credit, Math credit from Placement Exams, and AP/Clep credit. Processing of add/drop/registration will be a primary responsibility of this position.

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 1 year of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.

Preferred Qualifications

Three to four years’ experience in admissions or registration desirable. The selected candidate should have excellent oral and written communication skills. This person should be a self-starter and have a good working knowledge of how a university operates with regards to policy and procedures. Should have knowledge of FERPA and what restrictions are in place to protect the student and the university. Should have technical ability to utilize software and help implement a degree auditing system and ultimately train departments on usability of such software.
