Departmental Objective:

The Office of Human Resources (HR) at Christopher Newport University helps create, instill and foster a phenomenal culture and community to work and learn by attracting, hiring, supporting, developing and serving highly talented caring and committed employees.

Purpose of the Position:

This position will assist the Recruitment Manager with effectively coordinating a dynamic Classified and Hourly recruitment program, by attracting and hiring well-qualified candidates who will demonstrate excellent effort, achievement, and service and support, while embracing Christopher Newport University community values and transforming the lives of students. It will also assist the Office of Human Resources in offering quality customer service for a variety of HR programs to include the following services: background check process, enters information in to the background check system ensuring all hourly and classified candidates are accurately tracked and a database is maintained, supports the Recruitment Manager with hiring processes for classified and hourly employees and enters information into the E-Verify system. It will also uphold Federal, State and agency hiring lows, policy and practices to ensure the hiring process is fair and equitable.

Knowledge of screening applications, principles of interviewing, candidate selection, and references.

Knowledge, skills and abilities in the operation and maintenance of complex spreadsheets and databases

Ability to manage multiple tasks to meet critical deadlines

Preferred:

Computer skills using Microsoft Office suite to include Excel, or similar software

Considerable knowledge and skills of the relationships and interactions pertaining to human resource processes and principals


Education, Experience, Licensure, Certification Required :

Education Required: High school diploma or equivalent

Experience Required: Demonstrated data entry experience to include databases and spreadsheets. Prior experience in Human Resources or Recruitment. Experience with recruitment management systems.

Education, Experience, Licensure, Certification Preferred :

Preferred Education: Bachelor’s degree in human resources management, communications, psychology, business or related field. PHR/ SPHR certification.

Preferred Experience: Demonstrated experience using Microsoft Office to include Access, Word and PowerPoint. Experience facilitating presentations and/or trainings. Previous experience working in a college or university setting. Recruitment experience with a Commonwealth of Virginia agency. Experience using PeopleAdmin 7. Experience with eVA, procurement, reconciling invoices, and purchasing. Experience with onboarding / payroll paperwork such as I-9, tax forms, etc.
