Departmental Objective:

The Housing department ensures that student-housing facilities are well maintained, clean and safe for the students of CNU.

Purpose of the Position:

This position will provide repair and maintenance to the HVAC equipment and associated controls in University Housing. This includes but is not limited to split systems and thermostats. This position will assist in the purchasing of materials and supplies using a small purchase credit card and eVA purchasing system. It will maintain records for purchases and track inventory. This position will also provide assistance with various Housing projects and assignments.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities (KSA's) and/or Competencies required and preferred:


Understanding of principles of air conditioning, refrigeration and heating

Proficient in balancing air and water treatment systems in line with HVAC protocols

Proficient in reading schematics, work plans and blueprints

Working knowledge of methods, practices, materials and equipment used in air conditioning and refrigeration maintenance

Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and diagnose problems to maintain HVAC systems and related equipment in operating condition

Demonstrated ability to make adjustments to thermostats and related devices to maintain equipment in proper working condition

Good oral and written communication skills

Excellent interpersonal skills

Ability to work in confined spaces

Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

Ability to work in an on-call capacity


Working knowledge of boiler and chiller systems

Education, Experience, Licensure, Certification Required :

Education Required: High school diploma or equivalent. Journeyman HVAC license or ability to acquire within 24 months of start date. EPA Certification (Type I, II and/or Universal)

Experience Required: Considerable experience in HVAC trade at the journeyman level.

Education, Experience, Licensure, Certification Preferred :

Education Preferred: Associate’s degree in related field. Master HVAC license.

Experience Preferred: Experience working in a university or residential setting. Significant years of HVAC experience. Experience working with split systems.
