Requirements

Director of Development for Athletics, Office of Advancement - Georgetown University

The Director of Development for Athletics is primarily responsible for a portfolio of major gift prospects and is expected to identify, qualify, cultivate, and solicit vital philanthropic resources from alumni, parents, and friends to support Georgetown Athletics and the University. They are a valuable member of the development staff and Advancement Team. Reporting to the Senior Director of Development for Athletics, the Director of Development for Athletics has duties that include but are not limited to the following:

Fundraising
  • In consultation with the Senior Director of Development for Athletics, coordinate and build the advancement of relationships with prospective donors through appropriate stages of identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship resulting in annual philanthropic support for Athletics and the University.
  • Manage a portfolio of 150 prospects.
  • Meet regularly with the Senior Director of Development to provide progress on metrics and annual action plans.
  • Set annual specific metric goals of visits, asks, dollars raised, and collaboration to effectively advance solicitation of major gifts.


Collaboration
  • Collaborate with Athletics and Development team members to annually identify sport-specific and holistic funding priorities and initiatives.
  • Collaborate and partner with Development team members on case statements of support and sport-specific funding imitative one-pager.
  • Collaborate, partner, and utilize Athletic and Advancement colleagues to develop prospect strategies and build relationships for Athletics and University initiatives.
  • Develop a working knowledge of planned giving, and work with the Executive Director of Planned Giving to develop strategies for appropriate solicitation of planned gifts.
  • Participate in weekly development staff meetings, monthly one-on-one meetings, a mid-year performance discussion, and a performance evaluation with the Senior Director of Athletics.


Reporting/Stewardship
  • Ensure effective donor records, including timely filing of contact reports, prospect strategies, and requests for prospect assignments.
  • Provide appropriate stewardship of gifts acknowledgement. Work with the stewardship team to coordinate efforts.


Volunteer Boards
  • Collaborate with Development team members and present to various volunteer boards the funding priorities of Athletics.
  • Identify and recruit new board members.


Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree
  • At least 3 years of successful professional experience in fundraising or related non-profit organization work, alumni relations, public relations, marketing, or closely related field
  • Availability and willingness to travel and to attend Athletics events, including nights and weekends


The salary for this position is commensurate with experience with both internal equity and external competitiveness.
