Student Employee, Library Assistant

Job Description:

The Student Library Assistant will work with Library Faculty and Staff to help maintain library collections, facilities, and services. The Library Assistant may be asked to shelve or pull materials, assist with collection management operations, provide basic technical assistance to library users, or other duties as assigned.

POSITION TITLE: Student Employee, Library Assistant

STATUS: Part time


DIVISION: Academic Affairs

REPORTS TO: Aimee Walker, Librarian, Associate Professor, Department Chair


MINIMIUM PAY RATE: $11.00 per hour

(Position is FWS Eligible)


  • Assisting with collection management activities
  • Shelving and re-shelving library materials
  • Assisting with displays
  • Pulling materials for fulfillment
  • Assisting library users with basic technology needs
  • Assisting the Circulation, Reference, and Technical Services departments as assigned
  • Perform related duties as assigned


  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, writing, and customer service skills
  • Ability to pay attention to detail and attain accuracy
  • Ability to work independently
  • Working knowledge of basic computer tasks and software


  • Experience as a library page or assistant
  • Working knowledge of the Dewey Decimal System


  • Must be able to lift up to 40 lb. boxes
  • Must be able to complete repetitive bending and lifting motions


  • Must be available to work Monday thru Thursday 3pm to 6pm (hours subject to change based in future semesters based on library operations)
  • 12 hours per week
