The ideal candidate will share Clovis Community College’s commitment to educating its racially and socioeconomically diverse student population. As of Fall 2020, we currently enroll over 13,500 students in which 45% identify as Latinx, 12% as Asian/Pacific Islander, 3% as Black/African American, 32% as White, 1% as American Indian/Alaska Native, and 5% as multiracial. Clovis Community College is a Hispanic-Serving Institution, reflecting the great responsibility that the College has to the educational attainment and economic well-being of the surrounding community. The successful candidate will join a department dedicated to the use of curriculum responsive to the students it serves.

Under the direction of the Dean and with input from the OTA Program Director, the Instructor will provide instruction in the Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA) program including developing and managing curriculum and national accreditation approval:

  • Remain current regarding The American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA), Occupational Therapy Board of California, Clovis Community College, Title V, and Department of Education policies and grant terms;
  • Participate in the preparation and monitoring of reports relating to the project for the institution;
  • Assist with developing a project manual and updating as needed to specify all policies and procedures;
  • Participate in and contribute to timely completion of all phases and project objectives as detailed in the project implementation plan;
  • Facilitate the development and implementation of an effective and objective system of evaluation of both the components of the program and their impact on the institution;
  • Contribute to, participate in and facilitate a comprehensive plan to implement the Occupational Therapy Assistant program curriculum within the guidelines of the ACOTE accreditation requirements;
  • Work in conjunction with various campus constituencies to ensure that new instructional strategies and curriculum are infused to allow for systemic improvements campus wide;
  • Participate in and meet with the Advisory Steering Committee and the Dean to update the status of the project and ensure congruence between Title V development and long range development of the college;
  • Participate in program evaluation, compress findings into usable reports, and provide a reporting vehicle (newsletter, website report, etc.) to the campus community;
  • Develop and coordinate fundraisers to ensure program longevity;
  • Teach courses in the Occupational Therapy Assistant program and other health related programs;
  • Curriculum and program development and/or revision, including program review and the development and assessment of student learning outcomes for courses and programs and use the results to improve teaching and learning;
  • Assist in the recruitment, development and evaluation of adjunct faculty;
  • Advise students;
  • Participate in appropriate professional meetings and workshops;
  • Cooperate with regard to scheduling classes between colleagues in the same disciplines;
  • Assist in the advancement of the institutional mission and goals;
  • Serving on and attending department, college, and district committees as needed;
  • Participate in the implementation of projects and activities required for program development, program evaluation and other activities as required for compliance with ACOTE accreditation guidelines;
  • Teaching assignments in a variety of instructional settings and times, including evening and/or weekends, online of off-campus and large group instruction classes as needed; and
  • Otherwise fulfilling all of the duties and responsibilities of instructors as required by Administrative Regulation 7122.

Minimum Qualifications:

All candidates must have evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, as these factors relate to the need for equity-minded practice within the classroom; AND

  • Any bachelor’s degree or higher, Occupational Therapy Assistant, with a current license in the state of California, AND two years of directly related experience;

OR

  • A valid California Community College Credential; (NOTE: Applicants who possess a valid California Community College Credential must also meet the experience and license requirement listed above)

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Experience and skill incorporating elements of diversity, equity, and inclusion into all areas of responsibility;
  • Recent experience working with African American, Asian/Pacific Islander, Latinx, Native American, and other racially minoritized students in the classroom and an understanding of how historical patterns of exclusion of these groups in higher education shape patterns of participation and outcomes;
  • Willingness to examine and remediate one’s instructional, relational, and classroom practices to more effectively engage and support racially minoritized students;
  • Experience working with a diverse student population;
  • One or more years of experience in a full-time academic appointment with teaching responsibilities at the postsecondary level;
  • Experience with practice in a variety of settings including, but not limited to: in-patient rehabilitation, in-patient acute care, out-patient rehabilitation, skilled nursing, home health, mental health, neurological rehabilitation, or emergent areas of practice;
  • Experience and expertise in the application of physical agent modalities, hand therapy, or dysphagia/swallowing and feeing;
  • Related work and professional experience; and
  • Potential for contribution to institutional vitality and growth.

Knowledge of:
  • Research methods and report writing techniques;
  • Knowledge of current assessment methods and materials;
  • Policies and objectives of assigned program and activities;
  • Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy; and
  • Knowledge of the community college and its mission and goals.

Demonstrated Ability to:
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing;

Experience in:
  • Occupational therapy clinical practice;
  • Didactic and/or clinical teaching experience in an occupational therapy program; and
  • Educational theory, methodology and instructional design and methodology in occupational therapy.

Conditions of Employment:

177 duty days per year.

Salary and Benefits:

Starting salary is $60,678 – $91,350 based on education and experience. A doctoral stipend of $2,270 is available. Salary and stipends will be prorated based on start date. In addition, the District offers an attractive fringe benefit package including medical, dental, and vision coverage for the employee and dependents, and life insurance. Employees are also members of the California State Teacher’s Retirement System (CalSTRS).

Selection Procedure:

Applications will be screened by Human Resources for completeness and to determine which applicants meet the minimum qualifications as stated in the job announcement.

From the applicants who meet the minimum qualifications and who have submitted all the required documents by the closing date and time listed on the job announcement, a selection committee will review the candidates who are best qualified based on the minimum and desirable qualifications then determine who will be invited to interview.

The selection committee will rate responses to the interview questions, teaching demonstration, and writing prompt (if applicable). Based on this rating, a small number of applicants will be selected as the “recommended candidates”. These candidates will be forwarded to the Vice President of Instruction and College President for final interviews.

A hiring recommendation will be made by the College President and forwarded to the Board of Trustees of State Center Community College District for final approval.

State Center Community College District (SCCCD) was formed in 1964 when it assumed control of Fresno City College and Reedley College. SCCCD serves approximately one million people and 18 unified and high school districts in more than 5,500 square miles of urban and rural territory, including most of Fresno and Madera counties and portions of Kings and Tulare counties. SCCCD is governed by a seven-member board of trustees who represent seven trustee areas. Total district enrollment for the fall semester 2012 is over 34,000 students. SCCCD is a merit system district with over 2,300 faculty and classified staff represented by the California School Employees Association (CSEA) and the American Federation of Teachers (AFT). The total operating budget for SCCCD in 2012-13 is $168 million. 

Fresno City College, established in 1910, enrolls in excess of 22,000 students and offers more than 100 associate of arts and science degree programs and 60 certificate of achievement programs in vocational/occupational areas. Reedley College, established in 1926, is located in Reedley (approximately 25 miles southeast of Fresno) and enrolls approximately 6,200 students in a variety of courses and degree programs in occupational education and the arts and sciences. SCCCD operates three educational centers with a combined enrollment of approximately 8,300 students. The Willow International, Madera and Oakhurst centers offer programs in general education for transfer and two-year degrees. In addition, the district offers occupational and technical training at its Career and Technology Center and the Training Institute.
