The University of Vermont’s Department of Biology in The College of Arts & Sciences invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track faculty member at the rank of Assistant Professor in Cellular Neuroscience to join our nationally recognized and award-winning faculty. The position will start in Fall of 2022.

The most successful candidates will have multidisciplinary expertise using imaging, genetic and biochemical approaches to study fundamental processes of cellular neuroscience.

Qualifications:
The successful candidate should:
• Hold a Ph.D. degree in cell biology, developmental biology, biochemistry, neuroscience or in a related discipline;
• Have two or more years of postdoctoral experience;
• Show promise toward developing a competitively funded research program;
• Have the capacity to teach undergraduate and graduate courses ranging from general biology to an area of the candidate’s expertise;
• Be able to successfully mentor and advise undergraduate and graduate master’s and doctoral students, in addition to professional contributions and service.

Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will assume a range of responsibilities that include:
• Maintaining an active research agenda, securing external funding, and publishing in peer-reviewed journals;
• Teaching and advising in the department’s undergraduate and graduate programs;
• Collaborating with Department of Biology faculty and staff in departmental governance, program development, scholarship, and service;
• Serving as an active member of relevant scholarly societies and/or professional associations;
• Engaging in service and outreach activities at the college, university, regional, state, national and international levels.

The Department
The UVM Biology Department is a broad, basic science department whose faculty members’ research spans a range of core disciplines including biochemistry, cell biology, genetics, neuroscience, ecology and evolution. The Department of Biology is composed of award-winning faculty, stimulating coursework, and inspired students who are training to answer some of our world’s biggest questions. We know that hands-on experience is the key to learning, so our department is devoted to providing interactive opportunities to apply coursework in real-life, real-time settings. Our faculty enjoy international reputations, bringing their scholarship and productive research efforts into the undergraduate experience, providing opportunities for research from the introductory to advanced level that engage and challenge students and promote critical thinking skills.
