Position Information

This is a full-time, permanent (probationary) position.

This is an 'On-Campus Only' Recruitment. Qualified applicants must be current employees of CSUDH.

Special Working Conditions: Required to work nights and weekends

Conditions of Employment

Possession of a valid Driver's License is required. Employees in this position will be enrolled in the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) Government Employer Pull Notice Program which confirms possession of a valid driver's license and reflects driving record.

Satisfactory completion of a background check (including a criminal records check) is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.

The person holding this position is considered a `mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.

The salary range for this classification is: $2,923 - $5,283 monthly.

Major Duties

Under the direction of the Athletics Director, the incumbent will assist the Sports Information Director with a variety of duties related with game day communications and operations. Maintain Photos/Video (Utilizing existing video and photo libraries in order to promote and publicize the athletic teams), Website (Update record book, upload action shots & head shots, update career highlights & bios) and Writing (press releases, game recaps, and other publications). Assist with set up of home game & Sporting event related equipment. Perform other duties as assigned.


Requires knowledge of the fundamentals of public affairs and/or media relations, and/or some exposure to marketing and marketing research. Normally is obtained through a college degree, which includes relevant coursework in the field, and up to two years of related professional or technical experience. In addition, strong written and verbal communication skills with a solid
foundation in grammar, spelling, and the composition of various communication vehicles.

Knowledge of:
-English grammar, spelling and punctuation
-Office methods, procedures and practices
-Basic knowledge and understanding of media out-lets including print, television, and radio
-Working knowledge of protocols and institutional etiquette related to public and media relations
-Knowledge of Sports as it relates to statistics
-Working knowledge of event related equipment (i.e. canopies, game management electronics, set up of table & chairs)
-Basic knowledge of applicable copyright and other laws pertaining to written materials, news media and confidentiality
-Knowledge of basic web communication techniques, vehicles and formats
Abilities to:
-Coordinate administrative support tasks for fast paced office, prioritize work/project based on deadlines and complete accordingly-prepare correspondence
-Ability to prepare formal business letters, memos & reports
-Proficiency in the use of computerize office systems and software programs which perform word processing, spread sheet, graphics and data base programs
-Strong writing and editing skills to quickly produce clear and concise standard documents for internal and external publication
-Strong interpersonal skills to develop and maintain relationships within the university and community and with the media

Preferred Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university, is preferred.

Experience: Two years of related professional or technical experience. Equivalent to two years progressively responsible administrative or technical office experience in an office setting; Experience in an administrative office within an academic setting is preferred, but not required.

Required Certifications: Valid Driver's License


50% - The incumbent will provide support to the Sports Information Director (SID) with ongoing maintenance of Athletics website (Update record book, upload action shots & head shots, update career highlights & biographies), Social Media (Update & post information graphics, pre-game & post-game highlights) to include writing, editing, and proofreading communication press releases, game recaps and other related publications

25% - Provides support to the (SID) with Photos/Videos (Taking, cropping, editing, organizing, labeling and uploading), utilizing existing video and photo libraries to promote and publicize athletic teams.

20% - Assist in the coordination of home game set up and sporting events and other related equipment.

5% - Other related duties as assigned.
