Normal Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM

Note to Applicants: This position will serve clients within the North Alabama region. Driving to various counties in the territory is expected on a weekly basis. Estimate travel one to two days per week - 50 to 100 trips per year.

Job Summary: The Business Consultant provides the services of research, counseling, and training to small business clients.

Additional Department Summary: The Business Consultant serves as a professional counselor for the Procurement Program of the Alabama Procurement Technical Assistance Center network by providing management and technical assistance on government contracting to small business clients in Alabama. The Business Consultant provides technical services for research, counseling, and training to help small firms win government contracts. The position assesses customer needs and responds in a variety of ways to create effective solutions for the client to create economic impact. The Business Consultant provides confidential assistance to existing small businesses on federal and state procurement regulations; certifications and registrations; qualification statements; government contracting and set-asides; identification of bid opportunities; teaming; and bid preparation. The position makes direct visits to client companies and resource network partners and assists in conducting training programs and outreach for the Procurement Program. Position serves clients in the North Alabama region.

Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree and three (3) years of small business development or government contracting experience; OR Master's degree and one (1) year of small business development or government contracting experience. Must have valid U.S. driver's license. Must be at least 21 years of age at time of hire and have an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report as determined by the insurance carrier.

Preferred Qualifications: Preferred qualifications include a demonstrated understanding of small business planning and operations, effective research and writing skills, and interpersonal and intercultural communication skills.
