Position Summary:

The educator will have a 75% Family & Consumer Sciences (FACS) and 25% 4-H appointment. This position is responsible for delivering FACS programs and assist with 4-H and Youth Development programs in the specific geographic area, offering nutrition, health and wellness, and related subject matter areas. The FACS Educator will establish a health and wellness focused outreach program for adults and youth, assist with FACS related 4-H clubs, and offer resources related to family and consumer sciences.The individual will provide health and wellness outreach programs, including targeted nutrition programs for adults, families, and youth; education for families to stretch food dollars and plan for the future; support of the 4-H program in areas of FACS; and address critical health and wellness needs by delivering educational programs to a wide variety of audiences. The County Extension Educator position is an exempt professional staff role within UGA Cooperative Extension responsible for managing the many resources offered by a county office. A high level of independent judgment is required to carry out the essential duties of the job, and the employee is expected to manage Extension program administration and developing techniques and procedures as appropriate. This person works cooperatively with all Extension faculty and staff and is administratively responsible to the County Extension Coordinator and the District Extension Director. The individual will be supervised by the County Extension Coordinator within his/her home Extension office. The Educator will also work cooperatively with the staff in the local Extension offices to foster good working relationships for themselves and with others in their unit.

Duties/Responsibilities:

Conduct educational programming in Family and Consumer Science related topics. Offer resources within the scope of family and consumer sciences content areas. Plan and cooperate with staff members to coordinate programs. Incorporate the results of program evaluations and feedback in planning future programs and techniques used in implementing programs. Use local mass media to publicize events, programs, and accomplishments. Use county website and internet media to increase program outreach. Make reports to appropriate clientele and public officials through media, personal contacts, and group meetings to provide information on programs progress and coordinate reporting with other county staff members. Participate in professional development opportunities and state/district meetings as appropriate or required by the position. (Occasional overnight travel will be required.)

Duties/Responsibilities:

Support the 4-H and Youth Development program by offering education, training, and coaching for youth participating in the program. Support activities include, but are not limited to, healthy living, consumer judging, cooking clubs, adult classes, and job readiness. Additional educational programs for youth in grades K – 12 may be required as assigned by the District Extension Director, County Coordinator, or the Family and Consumer Sciences Program Development Coordinator.

Educational Outreach includes an adherence to program implementation, evaluation, reporting expectations, as well as establishing community relationships and outreach involvement.

Perform specific tasks and assume leadership for the program as specified by the District Extension Director, County Extension Coordinator, and the FACS Program Development Coordinator, when appropriate.
