Job Details
Participates in College-wide, Department of Nursing and Practice Learning Environment orientations, working closely with a department mentor in the clinical onboarding process. Performs instructional-related duties and responsibilities in a timely manner in accordance with the mission, policies, and procedures of the Holyoke Community College, Department of Nursing and Practice Learning Environment. Maintains faculty requirements and faculty file updates upon hire and annually. To include, but not limited to, MA RN license in good standing; CORI/SORI screening; drug screening; fingerprinting; liability and health insurance; MA DPH Health requirements; physical exam; evidence of professional development/scholarship; and CPR certification. Maintain clinical expertise in the area of specialization and nursing education in evidence-based practices through ongoing professional development and fieldwork. Participate as a team member to distribute and review the course syllabus, lab manual and/or clinical guidelines during the first class meeting. The adjunct nursing faculty shall forward course materials to the DON no later than the end of the first (1st ) week of classes in each semester.Be prompt and accurate in the recording and reporting of student data including course attendance, assessment of student performance in the clinical/simulation lab evaluation tool, and reporting of final grades.Utilize active learning methods and instructional strategies designed to assist the learner in meeting the student learning outcomes of the course while promoting critical thinking and sound clinical judgment initiatives.Assign, supervise, and plan practice experiences, and evaluate students in clinical/simulation lab learning environments based on student learning outcomes.Work effectively as a team member with the overall department and practice environment, demonstrating positive interpersonal relations, communication, collaboration with other faculty and healthcare members to meet department and student needs.
REQUIRED: BORN 244 CMR 6.00 Hold a current unencumbered Massachusetts Registered Nurse license; with an earned baccalaureate degree in nursing with a minimum of five years full-time clinical nursing experience within the last eight years; evidence of clinical competence in the area of clinical instruction; commitment to support underrepresented students in nursing; acute-care medical surgical nursing experience; ability to demonstrate teaching skills in the clinical and/or nursing skills lab area including the use of interactive and varied pedagogical strategies; confident and comfortable with technology-based instruction including online course work; commitment to teaching a student body diversity in abilities, age, ethnicity, race and sexual orientation; and the ability to work effectively with diverse faculty and staff.
PREFERRED: Possess an earned Master's degree in nursing, or possess an earned doctorate in nursing, for appointment to the faculty of a Registered Nursing program with a minimum of two years full-time experience in nursing, or its equivalent, within the last five years and evidence of clinical competence in the area of clinical instruction; teaching experience in higher education.

Enrollment
Located in Western Massachusetts' scenic Pioneer Valley, HCC draws students from more than 70 cities and towns throughout the region and from beyond. As a gateway to quality, accessible education and career advancement, more than 100,000 students have come through the doors seeking to realize their dreams and aspirations. HCC boasts the largest enrollment and awards the highest number of associate degrees and certificates among Western Massachusetts community colleges. At the college's 65th commencement in May 2012,a total of 1,000 students received approximately 1,026 associate degrees and certificates. Programs
HCC offers more than 100 associate degree and certificate options, as well as adult basic education/GED programs, education and training for business and industry, and noncredit community service personal and professional enrichment courses. To accommodate students' busy lives, HCC offers day, twilight, evening, weekend, and online classes. Academic programs, in a variety of disciplines, are designed for immediate career entry or for transfer to four-year institutions. Plus, for those seeking additional intellectual challenge in their coursework, HCC is known for its exceptional learning communities (team-taught interdisciplinary courses organized around a common theme) and its Commonwealth Honors program, among other programs and services.
Transfer
HCC has the highest transfer rate of any community college statewide, holding articulation agreements with more than 27 colleges and universities. Many students attend HCC with the intention of transferring to a four-year college or university. And many do so after graduating-often with generous and even full scholarships-to public and private four-year colleges and universities across the country. Locally, HCC is the largest feeder institution for Westfield State College and UMASS Amherst.
Immediate career entry
HCC offers short-term certificates and training for students whose goal is immediate career entry. HCC's Career Center provides additional assistance in helping students obtain employment in the region's many workplaces.
