Summary: To work collaboratively as part of the SFS Lead Team in communication, processes and systems that support students and family’s access to their education at SEU. Experience and collaboration will be critical tools to join alongside connecting students with funding from federal, state, and institution resources within the framework of established federal/state/institution regulations and policies.
Provides direct oversight, leadership, and support for one or more of the following, as assigned:
SFS Systems Support Specialist and responsibilities of this position including data integration, origination, disbursements, reconciliation, and systems updates and maintenance.
SFS counselor support and collaboration with other Directors for ongoing training
Works collaboratively with various other departments to integrate financial aid processes into enrollment management and related efforts that complement student recruitment and retention with a focus on campus wide systems and processes.
Maintains a current working knowledge of state and federal financial aid regulations and SEU policies in awarding financial aid to ensure compliance and audit requirements.
Analyzes changes in regulations and recommends appropriate updates in policies, procedures, and/or practices and informs Director of applicable changes/concerns.
Recommends, implements, administers, and oversees institutional policies, procedures, and systems to comply with all state and federal financial aid regulations, and accrediting agency requirements, and develops and maintains current financial aid resources and procedures manuals as instructed by the Director.
Develops and updates communications describing financial aid programs and services in accordance with federal consumer information laws, including publications and forms, in conjunction with the Director.
Provides technical and administrative leadership in the financial aid process.
Supports Director and Executive Director helping to ensure the Student Financial Services Office is in compliance with all laws, regulations and policies impacting financial aid.
Demonstrates in-depth experience with complex financial analysis, monitoring, reporting and control, as well as demonstrate the ability to manage, train and develop staff.
Involved most critically in the following responsibilities, as assigned:
State reporting and reconciliation.
Completion and updates for policy and procedure manual.
R2T4 review and calculations.
Financial Aid systems
PJ/Special Circumstances review and support
Assist with PowerFAIDS software annual Parameter Roll forward process and updates
Update and maintain SEU PowerFAIDS Net Partner student portal, and the SEU Net Price Calculator, under guidance from the Director and Executive Director
Performs other duties as assigned
Secondary Functions, when requested by the Director:
Evaluate unusual cases and/or special requests
Present Student Financial Services information sessions on campus
Special projects and additional duties as assigned by the Financial Aid Director to enhance the level of service and commitment to students, their families, and SEU
Coordinate scholarships (with federal/state/SEU awards) from both SEU and off-campus sources
Determine eligibility (including satisfactory academic progress) and award various types of federal, state, and institutional assistance in full compliance with federal and state regulations, university policies, and audit requirements.
Serves on committees and task forces to streamline processes and to develop and enhance working relationships within the university community.
Disseminates financial aid information to college and high school counselors and other groups.
Represent Financial Aid at orientation sessions and open house meetings when necessary.
Must be able to work flexible schedule including some evenings and weekends
Bachelor’s degree required; Master's degree preferred
Preferred minimum of at least five years of financial aid experience
Preferred PowerFAIDS experience
Proven customer service skills and enthusiasm for providing exceptional service to diverse populations including undergraduate and graduate students, parents, staff, faculty, and other constituencies
Sensitivity to the financial concern and stress of students and their families, and an aptitude for explaining complex financial information in terms that are easily understood and enhance the student/parent experience
Excellent interpersonal, communication, organization, and analytical skills
Experience in multi-task and detail operations
Ability to be flexible and adapt to stressful circumstances and difficult students/parents
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively towards the optimum delivery of service to students/parents
Working knowledge of federal and state regulations regarding student financial assistance
Flexibility in work schedule to accommodate evening and weekend hours
Preference given to candidates with PowerFAIDS and Jenzabar software experience
At least three (3) years' experience in the administration of a financial aid program required.
Strong knowledge of financial aid rules and regulations required.
Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with others required.
Demonstrated commitment to providing excellent customer service required.
High degree of organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks at the same time required.
High degree of proficiency in verifying financial aid eligibility required.
Ability to recognize, analyze, and solve problems required.
Proficiency in MS Office software applications required.
Must be able to work a flexible schedule including nights and weekends as necessary.
Must be able to travel, including overnight.
Satisfactory criminal and credit background checks required.
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of students, parents, employees, managers, and the general public.
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
