OPS Public Safety Telecommunications Operator

TCC Police Department

HIRING SALARY: $9.00 - $10.00 per hour (based on experience)

HOURS: 16-25 hours per week, Monday – Sunday (midnight's, evenings, weekends, and holidays required)

MAJOR FUNCTION: This position will be responsible for:

  • Working independently
  • Using a personal computer and specialized software, networks, and/or applications
  • Communicating effectively and working well with all types of people including faculty, staff, students, and the public.
  • Remaining calm and courteous in stressful situations
  • Performing multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Handling and processing confidential information with discretion
  • Speaking clearly and distinctly
  • Understanding and following all applicable laws, rules, policies, procedures, and training
  • Understanding and applying relevant knowledge about Florida Statutes, court systems, and department operating procedures.
  • Receiving, processing, and effectively prioritizing calls for service as emergency and non-emergency in accordance with department procedures.
  • Promptly, courteously, and efficiently answering incoming telephone calls received by the department, gathering all pertinent information about calls for service, their locations, and caller name(s)/number(s)
  • Receiving and transmitting information to and from law enforcement officers about complaints, crimes in progress, and general police communications.
  • Creating, communicating, and disseminating detailed messages and/or records regarding the safety and conditions of police officers performing hazardous duties.
  • Monitoring and operating a two-way radio
  • Monitoring and responding to text-to-dispatch services and communications, as appropriate
  • Monitoring and operating surveillance cameras, remote door security technologies, radio/telephone recording devices, and alarm systems
  • Monitoring and operating Computer-Aided Dispatch system, NCIC/FCIC terminals, CJIS system, DAVID system, and other such criminal justice networks, services, or systems as might be employed by the department in accordance with applicable laws, rules, policies, procedures, and training
  • Accurately tracking, monitoring, and documenting all officer activities during their tours of duty in accordance with department procedures.
  • Communicating with and summoning assistance from local response agencies as appropriate or directed
  • Answering main switchboard and routing calls to the appropriate person
  • Performing duties and responsibilities of other clerical staff as needed
  • Performing other duties as assigned

MINIMUM TRAINING/EXPERIENCE:Requires a high school diploma or its equivalent. Police Communications experience including NCIC/FCIC, Workday, and Computer Aided Dispatch is preferred. Must be able to work independently, available to work evenings, midnights, weekends, and holidays: working knowledge of Windows operating system, MS Office, and related desktop applications; excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to perform time-sensitive and complex tasks; skill in using a computer, keyboard, and mouse for extended periods of time.
