Job Description This position provides patron assistance at the Miller Nichols Library First Floor Services Desk. Stores and picks books and journals from the library automated retrieval system, Robot. Responsible for assisting patrons with circulation desk functions; assisting patrons with basic reference questions; and assisting patrons with basic printing and scanning issues. Indirectly supervises student assistants. Works with security guard assigned to building and UMKC Police to maintain safe, secure environment for library patrons. Responsible for closing the Circulation Services Department and assisting with closing the Miller Nichols Library. Other duties as assigned.

Contributes to a safe and respectful environment for all users and employees of the UMKC Libraries. Exemplifies the UMKC Statement of Values and the University Libraries Values

Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • At least two years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary
Preferred Qualifications
  • One to two years’ experience in a library setting.
  • Successful customer service experience.
  • Successful supervisory experience.
Full Time/Part Time

Full Time (40 hrs/wk) night/weekends

Salary

$15.00, plus eligible for $.70 shift differential for evening shift per HR policy 213

Shift

This position is responsible for closing the library and the Circulation Services Department on Tuesday through Thursday working 4:15 pm to 12:15 AM, Friday and Saturday 2:15 pm – 10:15 pm. Hours vary during intersession (Monday – Thursday closing at 7 pm/Friday 5 pm and closed weekends) and summer session based on library’s needs and hours of operation. The library is closed most weekends during intersession breaks and closes at 10 pm Sunday – Thursday and 6 pm Friday & Saturday during the eight week summer session. Position may be asked to shift their schedule during these times and may cover occasional other shifts in absence of other employees.
