Job Description

The Department of History seeks a dynamic Office Support Assistant, who has strong problem solving, communication, and administrative skills. This individual is central to the daily functioning of the History Department and helps to coordinate long-term strategies, projects, and goals. Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • provide administrative support to the department chair and the faculty, serving in an office manager role.
  • be the public face of the department, maintaining a welcoming, helpful and responsive environment for students, parents, faculty, staff, and visitors.
  • assist students as they navigate their way through their degree programs.
  • assist the department chair with managing department budgets and follow university policies and procedures for purchases, expense reports, grants, and contracts.
  • Assist HR hiring paperwork.
  • work with the department chair to coordinate course scheduling and maintain the course catalog.
  • supervise work study students.
  • manage the department website, communications, and digital presence through email, monthly newsletters, marketing, and social media.
  • provide logistical support for department programming and events.
  • collaborate with the department chair and faculty on strategic projects, institutional reports, and public programs
  • and other duties assigned.
Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent and at least 3 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred BA Diploma

The ideal candidate will:

  • be willing to solve problems and seek out solutions.
  • possess strong written and oral communication skills.
  • be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and Outlook and be willing to learn the various university computer systems.
  • will demonstrate interest in working in a higher education environment and will support the values and mission of the History Department and UMKC.
  • must be adaptable and flexible in an environment that is growing and changing daily.
  • must have a professional demeanor and demonstrate competence and judgment to preserve confidential information in a management-support setting.
Full Time/Part Time

Full Time, benefit eligible staff position

Salary

$11.54 - $15.65 per hour, commensurate with experience and education.
