The University of Miami is seeking a dynamic and innovative senior information technology executive to provide leadership, vision and strategic oversight of long-term technology needs and develop a comprehensive technology strategy to support and enable the mission and key initiatives of the University of Miami.

Reporting directly to the Executive Vice President for Business and Finance, & COO, the Vice President and Chief Information Officer, will create services to help faculty, students, and staff utilize technologies in learning, teaching, research, and administrative settings, and will assure the integrity of university data, proprietary information and related intellectual property through information security and access management (This position will partner with but not oversee Information Technology for the Health system of the University).

The ideal candidate will have demonstrated aptitude/capability to lead the full spectrum of technology functions across applications, infrastructure, and cybersecurity. Additionally, the candidate will have a business orientation having developed and executed technology strategies that measurably shift an organization’s performance (e.g., has developed a technology roadmap in a similar organization). An energetic, proactive, and forward-thinking influencer with high performance standards, the ideal candidate will possess outstanding leadership and visionary qualities.

This role will require a minimum education of a bachelor’s degree and 20 years of progressive IT experience, including significant leadership roles with a track record of superior implementation in an innovative, transformational setting. Experience in a higher education with an affiliated academic medical center is desirable, but not required.

Key Accountabilities

• Provide proactive leadership and vision for the development and use of information systems, resources, and technology to further the University’s mission and support the academic, student, and administrative operations of the institution.

• Leveraging the lessons learned during the pandemic, create a digital transformation roadmap for the University focused on process improvement, employee engagement, operational effectiveness, academic continuity, and a modern user experience

• Support a client-centric culture which delivers a consistently excellent client experience, where clients are defined as students, parents, patients, faculty, researchers, staff, trustees, donors and visitors

• Continuously develop the technical, leadership, and communications skills of the IT staff to ensure a high performing team

• Maintain a focus on diversity and inclusion, and a culture where staff feel valued and add value

• Ensure IT data security, risk management, disaster recovery and business continuity planning processes are in place and receive regular review for currency and adequacy

• Lead the organization’s strategic and tactical planning, organizational management, financial management, and project governance and manage day-to-day IT operations, including network and systems management, end-user support, and business intelligence capabilities (e.g., improved

ability to measure key business metrics)

• Working closely with the University’s Enterprise Business Solutions team, support continued enhancements of Workday and related systems, with an emphasis on training, support, change management and troubleshooting as necessary

• Working closely with the Office of Data Governance and Institutional Research, support the University’s initiatives to promote data as an institutional asset

• Serve as a connector and collaborator, working with University leadership and key stakeholders across the campus community to leverage technology to advance and support the mission and goals of the schools, colleges and business units of the university

• Collaborate closely with the University of Miami Health System to ensure excellent service of the enterprise functions managed by UMIT and to identify opportunities for shared focus
