GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Cuyamaca College seeks a creative, collaborative, student-centered, equity-minded professional with the passion and ability to advance the library's information literacy priorities through their position as librarian.

We are looking for a librarian with a wide range of experience and/or the ability to perform a variety of roles in support of student success. This includes developing and maintaining cooperative relationships with students, faculty and staff, serving as a collection development liaison with instruction and student services departments, and supporting the library services platform, the library website, LibGuides, and electronic resources.

All librarians are assigned reference desk hours. Reference service usually includes providing individual library instruction. Your work schedule may include evening hours.

All librarians provide some formal group classroom and online library instruction sessions. These sessions are usually given to classes in connection with specific research assignments.

All librarians participate in campus and district professional activities, including committee membership, staff development, and collegial meetings.

Under an assigned supervisor, Cuyamaca College librarians participate in the planning, implementation and evaluation of library instruction and services that will facilitate learning, support the college curriculum, and contribute to the mission of the college and the district. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: APPLICANTS MUST MEET ONE OF THE FOLLOWING CRITERIA:

Master's in library science, library and information science; OR A current California Community College Credential that permits full-time service as a Librarian; OR The equivalent.

Applicants must demonstrate sensitivity to, and an understanding of, the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds including those who are differently abled, and the diverse gender identity/sexual orientations of students.

NECESSARY QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Experience providing reference service, and/or general customer service to a wide variety of users.
  • Experience or ability to work effectively and professionally with faculty, staff, administrators and students.
  • Knowledge of and experience with library information systems and advanced technologies such as: computers, electronic databases, discovery resources, and utilities (on-line catalogs, bibliographic records, etc.).
  • Experience in developing and providing library instruction sessions.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Experience working in an Academic (college or university) Library.
  • Experience with developing resources for online use.
  • Knowledge of Library-related systems such as Alma/Primo, EBSCOhost Discovery System, LibGuides, and EZProxy.
  • Commitment to remain current in library and information science.
  • Experience with collection development for both print and electronic resources.
  • Skills and ability to develop outreach programs and motivate students from a broad spectrum of cultural, socioeconomic and language backgrounds.
