Visual and Studio Arts tenure track position in Sculpture

Rank: Professor
Tenure Information: Tenure Track

Job Description
The Sarah Lawrence College Visual and Studio Arts Department announces one ½ time tenure track position in Sculpture beginning Fall 2022. Candidates should show enthusiasm for teaching a broad range of students with varying degrees of experience as part of a unique liberal arts curriculum. This position will entail the teaching of one 5-credit studio course per semester, one 2-credit transdisciplinary course, and participation in our First Year Studies program.

In addition to the outlined teaching duties, this position includes oversight of the program's sculptural facilities (including wood working, metalwork, plaster, and other forms of fabrication), college and program committee involvement, and active participation with all aspects of the arts at the college (program-wide critiques, student exhibitions, and more). The position also requires ongoing advising of students from all areas of the college, and individual and small group conference meetings with students, both hallmarks of Sarah Lawrence College's educational system. In addition to artists working within traditional sculptural practices, candidates are encouraged to highlight their work's relationship to other disciplines, and how they see sculpture's relevance and potential within the art world and across broader social, political, and technological contexts.

Interested candidates must submit;

  • Cover Letter
  • Statement of teaching philosophy and scholarly interests that articulates how diversity, equity, and inclusion informs your work
  • CV
  • Two descriptions of ideal courses you would offer at Sarah Lawrence College
  • Names and contact information for 3 references, at least one of whom can speak directly to your teaching abilities
  • Website, pdf, or link to a google drive folder with at least 10 personal artwork samples and 10 examples of student work

This position will remain open until filled. For full consideration, applications must be received by October 15, 2021.
