The University of Virginia seeks a dynamic, collaborative, and experienced fundraising professional to fill the role of Director of Reunion Giving within University Advancement.

Reporting to the Executive Director of Development, the Director of Reunion Giving will oversee a complex program of philanthropic activity centered around UVA Reunions. In conjunction with colleagues fundraising for University Priorities, the Director of Reunion Giving will design and manage a Reunion Giving fundraising strategy that supports the discovery of new donors and helps build a pipeline of major gift prospects for the University. The successful candidate will manage a team of fundraising professionals working with volunteer committees from multiple reunion classes and guide efforts to generate philanthropic support for the University’s fundraising priorities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Build and manage a portfolio of current and prospective major-gift level donors ($100K+) and create personalized strategies which move them towards giving levels that achieve annual and long-range fundraising goals of the University.

  • Create personalized strategies to identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward individuals within his/her portfolio.

  • Work closely with volunteer chairs and committees to help them achieve their class fundraising goals.

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive fundraising plan for the Reunion Giving program to include special events, communications, annual campaigns, and major gift strategies in support of the University’s fundraising priorities.

  • Work closely with staff at the UVA Alumni Association to coordinate messaging and communications around UVA Reunions programming.

  • Collaborate with other fundraisers in the department and across the University in overall relationship building of alumni, parents and friends to ensure a coordinated approach for prospects and donors and to develop and implement cultivation and solicitation plans.

  • Travel nationally to identify, cultivate, and solicit prospects.

  • Coach and lead development officers, creating and maintaining a culture of learning and inclusion on the Reunion Giving team.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree

  • Eight years of relevant experience

  • Ability to frequently travel domestically with occasional evening and weekend work.

  • Valid Driver's License

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience in non-profit or higher education fundraising and with staffing senior leaders and volunteers.

  • Demonstrated success in fundraising, sales or managing relationships with high-net-worth individuals.

  • Track record of demonstrating a high degree of initiative, flexibility and will have the skills to shape and be shaped by an evolving fundraising initiative.

  • Exceptional communication skills, a high degree of personal integrity and the ability to keep the big picture in focus while attending to the small details.

  • Experience using data to evaluate and plan.
