Job Summary:
  • Eastern Washington University is currently seeking a Maintenance Mechanic 2 in the Auto Shop. This position is responsible for completing the work of a journey-level trades worker in the inspection, diagnoses, making major or minor mechanical repairs, preventive maintenance on all university owned/leased/contracted vehicles and motorized equipment.

Required Qualifications:
  • Physical ability to do the work
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Require completion of a recognized apprenticeship in a skilled mechanic trade or four year of experience as a journey-level worker in vehicle and equipment maintenance.
  • Class B Combination Driver’s License (CDL) and the (H) Hazardous Materials Endorsement, (N) Tank Vehicle Endorsement, (P) Passenger and Air Brake endorsement which must be obtained within 6 months of hire date.
  • Microsoft Office proficiency which includes the use of Outlook Calendar, Word and Excel.
  • Experience entering information into a computerized system for tracking maintenance/repair work.
  • Tracking and monitoring hazardous waste disposal.
  • Demonstrated customer service experience.
  • Candidate must demonstrate interest, ability and/or experience promoting cultural competency, universal accessibility and/or diversity


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Currently possess a CDL with the required endorsements
  • Experience specifically with AIM and Mitchell 1 software
  • Experience working in a business or shop with duties performing estimates.
  • Possess ASE Certification
  • Possess a good driving record
  • Experience working in a higher education institution

Responsibility / Duty: Must be competent in computer programs concerning the automotive shop.  Must be able and competent to learn and operate Mitchell 1 Teamworks for history, past and present maintenance, work order submittals and other related duties associated with Mitchell 1 Teamworks.  AIM is a program that is also required to understand and use.  And all other applicable programs as they become available.

Responsibility / Duty: Operate the Propane and use refueling truck owned by the University to fuel our 41 emergency generators located throughout campus.  Keep appropriate records for fueling and billing.

Responsibility / Duty: Assist with inventory control and security of shop tools and equipment.

Responsibility / Duty: Operate, maintain, and repair all vehicles and equipment such as pickups, cars, backhoe, heavy trucks, tractors, buses, riding mowers, emergency generators, motor driven landscape equipment and other miscellaneous items.

Responsibility / Duty: Operate and maintain all job-related equipment such as vacuum gauge, voltage and regulator tester, wheel balancer, drill press, wheel pullers, jacks, air tools, digital volt meters, computerized diagnostic devises and software, tire changing and balancing equipment, vehicle lifts, hoists, and other miscellaneous items.

Conditions of Employment:
  • This position, during the course of university employment will be involved in the receipt of, or accountability for, university funds or other items of value; as well as the unsupervised access with the developmentally disabled, vulnerable adults or children under the age of 16. The offer of employment is contingent upon successful completion and passing of a background check prior to beginning employment.
  • All new employees must comply with EWU immunization Policy 602-02 and provide proof of immunity or vaccination to MMR and proof they are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 before beginning work at EWU. Waivers for the immunization requirements are available for medical or sincerely held religious beliefs.
  • This position is covered by the Washington Federation of State Employees’ Collective Bargaining Agreement.
  • Random drug testing due to the Commercial Drivers License requirement.





Salary Information: $52,476 - $59,460
