JOB SUMMARY

The University of Connecticut is seeking an enthusiastic individual to fill a full-time position as a software developer in the Information Technology Services organization. Primary duties will include programming support for web service integrations, and reporting. You will be joining a team of experienced IT professionals managing a portfolio of applications for the University’s Planning, Design & Construction, and Facilities organizations.

The successful candidate will provide analysis, design, development, implementation, troubleshooting, and production support for applications managed by the Application & Technology Solutions team.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Identifies and resolves system errors. Consults with functional users to resolve problems in software systems.
  • Writes scripts and/or basic programs to assist with managing software systems.
  • Documents modifications made to the hardware, software, or procedures related to the systems.
  • Uses various software and hardware tools, installs software and/or hardware.
  • Works with vendors and management to develop or enhance software systems.
  • Works with technical and functional staff to resolve system integration issues.
  • Carries out small to moderately sized technical tasks with minimal assistance and writes summaries of technical project work.
  • Responds to inquiries from other departments and collaborates with external departments.

Documents all technical work in user guides for future reference.

  • Supports the development of plans and processes to that minimize risk to services or systems due to errors.
  • Supports technical projects as part of a project team.
  • Usues standard diagnostic techniques to analyze, identify and solve problems.
  • Supports senior technical personnel in the installation, upgrade, and maintenance of software systems.
  • Supports the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of University information as part of the overall University Information Security Program.
  • Performs related work as required.

  • Develops procedures, techniques, or programs to analyze or improve the performance and
  • efficiency of software and hardware systems. Documents modifications made to the
  • hardware, software, or procedures related to the systems.
  • Works with vendors and management to develop or enhance software systems.
  • Carries out larger technical tasks with minimal assistance, and writes summaries of
  • technical project work.
  • Develops plans and processes to ensure the availability of services or systems.
  • Collaborates with senior technical personnel in the installation, upgrade, and maintenance
  • of software systems.
  • Plans software development and implementation.
  • Contributes to technical projects as part of a cross functional team.
  • Collaborates with senior technical personnel in the installation, upgrade, and maintenance
  • of application systems.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Associate’s degree and 4 years of related experience OR Bachelor’s degree and 2 years of related experience OR 6 years of related experience
  • Experience with Object Oriented Programming (OOP).
  • Experience with SOAP and/or REST web services.
  • Experience with SQL and relational databases.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent planning and organization skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage complex problems and to work well under pressure.
  • The ability to work effectively as a project team member.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Additional Minimum Qualifications for Software Developer 2

  • Associate’s degree and 6 years of related experience OR Bachelor’s degree and 4 years of related experience OR 10 years of related experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide leadership in programming activities and projects.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • 4-8 years of programming experience in Java or C#.NET, or equivalent language.
  • Experience with Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS), Apache or Tomcat.
  • Experience using frameworks such as Spring MVC, .NET Framework, CodeIgniter or similar.
  • Experience HTML, JavaScript, jQuery, HTML and CSS.
  • Experience programming in Java, C#, PHP, Python or other high-level languages.
  • Experience with Eclipse, NetBeans or similar IDE tools.
  • Experience with SDLC tools, such as JIRA, Confluence, Bamboo, Jenkins or similar.
  • Experience with Oracle Primavera Unifier.
  • 2 years of professional work experience in higher education.
  • Certifications relevant to this position.

APPOINTMENT TERMS

This is a full-time, 12-month, on-site permanent position located on the main campus in Storrs, CT. The University offers a competitive salary, outstanding benefits including employee and dependent tuition waivers at UConn, and a highly desirable work environment. The hiring range for this position is $61,302-$99,966. Rank and salary will be commensurate with the successful candidate's background and experience
