HIRING RATE: minimum wage

Under the supervision of the Art Gallery Manager, the Art Gallery Assistant provides a friendly, knowledgeable experience for gallery visitors by interpreting artwork media, processes, styles, and providing artist information.

In addition, duties and responsibilities include:
- Assuring the safety of the artwork from theft or damage
- Maintaining assigned work schedule, communicating changes to gallery manager
- Becoming familiar with exhibit and Performing Arts Center event schedules
- Assisting with exhibition installation, maintenance, and closing
- Assisting with data entry, record keeping, and mailings
- Assisting with social media updates, Yavapai College Prescott Art Gallery website updates, and designing of print/online public relation materials
- Providing assistance for visiting campus & community groups
- Answering phone inquiries, checking messages, and returning calls as needed
- Maintaining gallery signage and handouts
- Selling of artwork following sales procedures (includes handling cash, check, and credit card sales)
- Keeping art gallery and storage areas clean and organized
- Working on special projects assigned by the Art Gallery Manager (type artwork bios and mailing lists, update and organize gallery notebooks, maintain gallery fixtures, research art/artists/art styles, etc.)
- Other related duties as assigned

This is a part-time position, working 0 - 19 hours per week as scheduled. Must be available for flexible work schedule, including evenings and weekends.

Minimum Expectations & Requirements

- High school diploma or GED
- Basic computer skills (Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office- Word, Excel, etc.)
- Good customer service skills to interact with staff, faculty, students, and visitors
- Passion, enthusiasm, and interest in art (visual and/or performing)
- Physical ability as outlined in Essential Functions

Preferred Skills & Abilities

- Current or former art student at Yavapai College
- Coursework or degree in the Visual Arts and/or Graphic Arts
- Ability to lift 50 to 75 lbs. with or without assistance
- Experience working in a community college/higher education environment

The employee is occasionally required to climb ladders, and move pedestals as required to install artwork. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.
