Job DescriptionTo obtain, maintain and dispense instructional materials and equipment for departmental teaching laboratories, to uphold a safe lab environment, and to assist others in the utilization and understanding of the materials and equipment.
- Assembly equipment and materials for use in classroom laboratory settings.
- Coordinate introductory physics laboratory experiments with the instructors of those courses.
- Order and purchase laboratory equipment as needed.
- Train teaching assistants and adjunct instructors of introductory labs in use of the equipment.
- Advise and assist Teach Assistants with technical problems in the laboratories
- Handle minor equipment repairs or coordinate repairs with service technicians.
- Notify facilities services of problems in the laboratories needing repair, i.e. plumbing, electrical and structural, and follow up to ensure work is completed
- May serve on Departmental committees
A Bachelor's degree in Physics or an equivalent combination of education and experience and 2 years of experience teaching or coordinating introductory physics labs at the undergraduate level.
Preferred QualificationsAn MS (or higher) in Physics with at least 2 years experience in teaching introductory physics labs and 1 year or more of experience in coordinating or supervising introductory physics labs at the university level.
