Job Summary:

Position for enthusiastic registered veterinary technicians with a passion for emergency and critical care. Successful candidates will provide clinical assistance to professional staff and a variety of treatments to patients admitted to the Boren Veterinary Medical Hospital (BVMH). Candidates will have the opportunity to actively participate in one-on-one training of veterinary students, as well as work alongside veterinary specialists to provide clients and patients with the highest standard of care. Applicants must have an Associate in Veterinary Technology (or equivalent) and be licensed or eligible for license to practice veterinary medicine in Oklahoma.

This is a full-time positions with varying shifts and hours. Shift differentials are available for non-traditional shifts. Every full-time employee receives a full benefits package. The BVMH is a 145,000 square foot, full-service veterinary teaching hospital providing 24 hour care for all domestic and selected exotic and wildlife species. The BVMH admits more than 15,500 clinical cases per year, and hospitalizes 5-8 ICU cases per day. Our Critical Care Unit is a state-of-the-art facility and is staffed with capable, competent technicians. Our hospital is equipped with digital radiography, MRI, CT, ultrasound, endoscopy, 24-hour access to full clinical pathology lab, oxygen cages, pulse oximetry, capnography, I-Stat point-of-care testing, telemetry, blood pressure and central venous pressure monitoring, Pleur-Evac® suction units, and ventilator therapy. Successful candidates will have the opportunity to interact with 20 small animal specialists, as well as a supportive group of interns and residents. This position is in the small animal CCU area of the hospital.Exposure to animal diseases that may be transmitted to humans. Subject to animal scratches or bites. Exposure to chemicals and pharmaceuticals used in treatment of animals, medical waste, animal feces, urine, blood, and vomitus. Exposure to hazardous materials such as chemotherapeutic drugs. Loud noises related to small and large animals are routine. Must comply with mandatory rabies pre-exposure vaccine program.Must be physically capable of lifting animals weighing 50 pounds or greater onto exam tables and into elevated cages.

Minimum Qualifications:

Vocational/Technical Degree in Veterinary Technology

Associate of Science degree in Veterinary Technology from an AVMA accredited veterinary technology program with two years related experience. Applicants must have an Associate in Veterinary Technology (or equivalent) and be licensed or eligible for license (within 120 days) to practice veterinary medicine in Oklahoma.

Experience in restraint of small animals, administering injections, and placement of IV (peripheral, central, and urinary) catheters is essential. Must have knowledge of equipment used within VTH including, but not limited to: personal computer, telephone, copy machine, diagnostic lab equipment, electrodiagnostic equipment, and ECG, etc.

Must be physically capable of lifting animals weighing 50 pounds or greater onto exam tables and into elevated cages.

Preferred Qualifications:

Associate's Degree in Veterinary Technology

Veterinary Technician Specialist recognized by NAVTA; or have credentials in specialty that VTH defines as meriting recognition; experience as a Veterinary Technician at an AVMA accredited teaching hospital, or large, multi-clinician private veterinary practice.
