Position Overview The Institute for Developmental Disabilities in the Department of Human Development and Family Science (HDFS) at Oklahoma State University invites applications for an Instructor/Assistant Professor of Professional Practice. This twelve (12) month non-tenure track faculty position supports the Institute mission and values to learn from and work alongside individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families to enhance quality of life for all. Appointment Anticipated start date, January 2022. This position is a twelve (12) month non-tenure track faculty position. The position will be opened until filled. Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe successful candidate will contribute to the Institute for Developmental Disabilities and the HDFS Department through the following efforts:
- Serve as the Program Director of Opportunity Orange Scholars, reporting to the Director of the Institute for Developmental Disabilities and HDFS Department Head in the development, management, and evaluation of the program. Specific responsibilities include:
- Master’s in Human Development and Family Science, Special Education, Disability Studies or related field; Earned doctorate preferred (ABD doctoral candidates will be considered).
- Previous professional experience working alongside individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities; Experience in inclusive postsecondary education programming preferred.
- Centers: Center for Family Resilience (Tulsa), Center for Public Life (Tulsa), Center for Family Services, Cleo L. Craig Child Development Lab, Institute for Developmental Disabilities, and the newly formed National Institute for Immigrant Health and Education (NIIH).
- Academic Programs: The Department offers undergraduate and graduate degrees within the disciplines of human development and family science, 388 undergraduate and 98 graduate students were enrolled in Fall 2020. Our programs produce leaders for industry, academic, and public school education positions through undergraduate and graduate programs, internships, and experiential learning activities.
- Research: The department's expert faculty conduct internationally- and nationally-recognized research focused on promoting the well-being, health, and healthy relationships of individuals, families, and communities across Oklahoma and the nation.
- Instruction: The Department's expert faculty provide high-quality instruction to promote student success. Our undergraduate programs offer service learning, internship and practicum opportunities. We develop competent professionals with the knowledge and resources to improve the relationships of families and communities in Oklahoma and globally.
- Extension: Department state specialists provide education to OSU Extension educators in all 77 counties to improve the health, wellbeing, and financial skills of the people in Oklahoma. Additionally, department faculty and students are engaged with local communities throughout the state.
