Position Overview

The Institute for Developmental Disabilities in the Department of Human Development and Family Science (HDFS) at Oklahoma State University invites applications for an Instructor/Assistant Professor of Professional Practice. This twelve (12) month non-tenure track faculty position supports the Institute mission and values to learn from and work alongside individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families to enhance quality of life for all.

Anticipated start date, January 2022. This position is a twelve (12) month non-tenure track faculty position. The position will be opened until filled.

Duties and Responsibilities

The successful candidate will contribute to the Institute for Developmental Disabilities and the HDFS Department through the following efforts:

• Serve as the Program Director of Opportunity Orange Scholars, reporting to the Director of the Institute for Developmental Disabilities and HDFS Department Head in the development, management, and evaluation of the program. Specific responsibilities include:

oDevelop and supervise all aspects of implementation of certificate program including program goals and quality.

oCreate a person-centered planning process with Scholars to promote student independence, self-management, self-determination, and self-advocacy.

oDevelop student learning outcomes and program evaluation that align with program objectives and demonstrate a cycle of continuous program improvement.

oRecruit prospective Scholars for the program and oversee the Scholars admission process to include application, interview, and orientation procedures; chair the Opportunity Orange Scholars Application committee.

oCreate and sustain positive and productive relationships with Scholars, family members, and OSU affiliates; provide training for caregivers/family members on transition to higher education, employment, and independent living.

oRecruit, train, and collaborate with university faculty, staff, and degree-seeking students as well as departments and organizations across campus and the community to promote the inclusion and success of Scholars in all facets of campus life.

oExtend the benefits of the inclusive experience for all members of the campus community (including but not limited to academic advising, registrar, financial aid, housing and residential life, student life, orientation, career center, counseling, student organizations, job employment support).

oCollaborate and provide consultation as needed to assist campus partners. May include responding to after-hours emergencies.

oCreate and maintain partnerships with organizations and businesses on and off campus to promote opportunities for career exploration and competitive employment for Scholars.

oOversee and manage program staff including, Administrative Assistant(s), Program Specialist(s), and Graduate & Undergraduate Student(s).

oCommunicate with university faculty and related administrators regarding academic progress of Scholars and achievement of program outcomes.

oMonitor and adhere to program budget.

oSeek funding and promote internal and external fundraising efforts to support the growth and viability of the program.

oMonitor and adhere to MOU agreements between OSU and stakeholders/funders.

oPresent and publish on program practices and research.

Required Qualifications

Master’s in Human Development and Family Science, Special Education, Disability Studies or related field; Earned doctorate preferred (ABD doctoral candidates will be considered).

• Previous professional experience working alongside individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities; Experience in inclusive postsecondary education programming preferred.

About the Program: Building on OSU’s mission as a land-grant University and commitment to diversity, Opportunity Orange Scholars aims to enhance lives of students with intellectual disability and enrich the OSU community by promoting lifelong learning and advancing knowledge and skills necessary for competitive employment and independent living. Target student population includes individuals between the ages of 18 and 26 years who have an intellectual disability and do not meet OSU’s admission criteria for degree-seeking students. Opportunity Orange Scholars is a two-year, residential, non-degree Certificate Program with an additional two-year, non-degree Advanced Certificate Program option. The program will align with requirements for future accreditation of a Comprehensive Transition Program, which include the following four components:

About the Department: As an academic unit of the College of Education and Human Sciences at Oklahoma State University, the Department of Human Development and Family Science has a diverse and dynamic mission with 27 faculty and 36 staff members across two campuses, Stillwater and Tulsa. The department focuses on strengthening relationships and empowering people across the life-span. We seek to better understand how to help children and adults with their relationships, to prepare students to become professionals in the field, and to equip community organizations with the best practice recommendations from research. Research: The department's expert faculty conduct internationally- and nationally-recognized research focused on promoting the well-being, health, and healthy relationships of individuals, families, and communities across Oklahoma and the nation.

Instruction: The Department's expert faculty provide high-quality instruction to promote student success. Our undergraduate programs offer service learning, internship and practicum opportunities. We develop competent professionals with the knowledge and resources to improve the relationships of families and communities in Oklahoma and globally.

Extension: Department state specialists provide education to OSU Extension educators in all 77 counties to improve the health, wellbeing, and financial skills of the people in Oklahoma. Additionally, department faculty and students are engaged with local communities throughout the state.
