(Contingent upon available funding): 14.32 - 19.38, Hourly Work Schedule: M-F, 8-5 with seasonal evenings and weekends Faculty Appt Period: Job Summary: The Financial Planning and Campus Connection Coach provides financial strategies and referral recommendation for first year students at risk for attrition due to potential financial, engagement, or academic challenges to their successful transition to college. The Financial Planning and Campus Connection Coach understands student needs/burdens to leverage cross campus resources (divisional and within academic colleges) and the collaborative efforts required to work as part of a campus wide team. The Financial Planning and Campus Connection Coach will work directly with Enrollment Management / Scholarships and Financial Aid to address immediate monetary needs of first year students via intervention activities, financial education, and financial counseling and counsel students and families regarding college funding including missed opportunities for financial aid, loans, scholarships, work-study, part-time jobs, etc. Financial Planning and Campus Connection Coaches advises students regarding campus resources, promotes self-advocacy, and builds success plans and strategies to help ensure student success. Must use professional judgement in determining student circumstances that warrant intervention and assistance and support OSU's recruitment and retention mission through presentation of information and student / family communications. Utilizes electronic, text, written, verbal, and in person means to meet with ad follow all contacts to encourage engagement in successful college behaviors. Facilitate student outreach with current/new strategies through First Year Success and campus offices, academic colleges, and campus student support offices. Ideal candidates possess extensive customer service skills, communicate well with students to understand challenges, and show the capacity to work in a dynamic, ever-changing environment. Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree
Experience serving/working with students/families with financial issues.
Proficient in Microsoft Office and using web based applications. Skilled with Microsoft Excel and using data. Strong interpersonal, communications, and problem solving skills. Knowledge of financial aid structure at campus, state and federal levels. Ability to work in a dynamic, fact-paced, measured environment that focuses on student success and retention. Requires an excellent customer service attitude and ability to participate in a team setting. Maintain confidentiality and sensitivity in handling student information.
Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm; 40hrs per week; will be required to work some outside of scheduled hours (evenings and weekends) to support retention programs.
Completion of OSU Ambassador Program or comparable program required within first year after hire (pending availability of scheduled classroom coursework).
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's Degree
Three years of experience in student development, advising, coaching, financial aid, and/or related areas. Experience in OSU's student management and financial database systems, and federal databases. Experience serving/working with students/families with college transition issues. Experience in student retention theories and initiative.
Knowledge of financial aid structure at campus, state, and federal levels. Familiar with OSU computer systems and applications. Proficient in Microsoft Office, University web based applications (Banner, STAR, Slate, etc.) and database (SAS) tools. Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem solving skills. Ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment that focuses on student success and retention. Requires an excellent customer service attitude and ability to participate in a team setting. Maintain confidentiality and sensitivity in handling student information.
