This is an academic-year, 9-month position, which begins each September one week before Labor Day and concludes on Commencement Day the following May. The position is anticipated to begin in September of 2022, prior to the start of the semester.

The Department of Psychology at The University of Rhode Island invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Social Psychology in our Behavioral Science track, beginning fall 2021. We seek an individual with expertise that complements existing strengths in clinical and health psychology, substance use and addictions, methodology and statistics, inclusion and diversity, child/adolescent/young adult health, and clinical neuroscience. Areas of interest are open, and we broadly welcome specialization in areas of social and health science that are of vital concern to society and that offer opportunities for collaboration within our department and across the College of Health Sciences and the University. The position will address teaching and research needs in social psychology that are central to our undergraduate BA and BS, and graduate curriculums. The Department, College, and University recognize that the field of psychology needs to be strengthened by contributions from a broad range of perspectives. Duties and Responsibilities:

Teach two courses per semester at the undergraduate and graduate levels.

Publish research relevant to social/health psychology.

Mentor students at the graduate and undergraduate levels.

Seek and secure external research funding that will support productive research.

Demonstrate a strong commitment to diversity and inclusion through research, teaching, and service activities.

Perform other duties as required.

Qualifications

Required
:

1. A PhD (or equivalent in psychology or a closely related field) or completion of the degree by September 1, 2022.

2. Demonstrated ability to publish research in major peer-reviewed journals closely aligned with the field, Department and position.

3. Demonstrated ability and/or interest in teaching undergraduate and graduate students.

4. Demonstrated success and/or evidence of promise in obtaining external funding that will support productive research.

5. Demonstrated ability in applying quantitative, qualitative and/or mixed methods to enhance rigor in research.

6. Demonstrated proficiency in written communication skills.

7. Demonstrated proficiency in oral communication skills.

8. Demonstrated ability to work with diverse groups/populations. Preferred :

1. Demonstrated research interests in social/health-related areas of psychology. Specific areas of interest are open. Examples may include, but are not limited to, topics such as social cognition, behavioral health decision making, cultural and/or other social influences on addictive and risky health behaviors, social networks, behavioral health risk prevention and intervention, and population health.

2. Demonstrated research interests that have the potential for student involvement and collaboration and contribution within and beyond the Department, such as in the College of Health Sciences, the Interdisciplinary Neuroscience Program, the School of Pharmacy, and the College of Nursing.

3. Demonstrated ability in mentoring undergraduate and/or graduate students.
