Qualifications

Requirements include a terminal degree (MFA or PhD) conferred by August 1, 2021, or equivalent experience in live entertainment design and technical theatre, a record of outstanding teaching, scholarship/creative activities, and a commitment to undergraduate education.Candidates should have experience in developing innovative courses, curricula, and research related to their area of scholarship and creative activity, and a demonstrated commitment to teaching in interdisciplinary areas is encouraged. Ideal candidates should have a strong professional background in lighting design.

Responsibilities

Tenure track faculty are expected to develop and maintain an active research program that includes an ongoing commitment to advancing technologies and emerging industry standards for future tenure consideration and evaluation of their research/scholarly/creative activity, teaching and service.Candidates must be able to teach Introduction to Theatre Technology, Lighting Design for the Stage, and Drafting for the Entertainment Industry. Teaching can include a variety of technical theatre courses within the candidate's area of expertise. Examples include costume construction, costume design, projections or sound design, stagecraft, technical direction, or stage management.Design opportunities are available within the Department of Theatre’s production season.The successful candidate will work with the existing faculty, chair, and dean of the College of Performing Arts to develop a new BFA in Theatre Technology and Design. The department, college, and university value personalized faculty collaboration with undergraduate students. The faculty member will be expected to advise, mentor, and encourage undergraduate students with regard to curriculum, research projects, internship opportunities, and career possibilities. Active involvement in department, college, and university service is expected. It is expected that the candidate will maintain a national and/or international professional profile.
