Position Summary

Under the supervision of the Director of Institutional Research, Planning and Accreditation, the Institutional Research Analyst is responsible for gathering, entering and analyzing data and statistics, preparing reports, and for using web-based reporting systems to improve data access and analysis for college leadership, academic support units, state and federal agencies, and other stakeholders. The IR Analyst maintains a calendar of regular data reports, responds to ad hoc requests for data and information, enters, manages, and analyzes data using SPSS version 25/26, and creates standard reports from a variety of sources utilizing Microsoft products such as Word, Access, and Excel.

  • Assists with preparing internal, local, state, and federal reports in a timely, accurate manner using the college administrative software - Ellucian Banner - and other resources while communicating with other college and agency personnel to ensure uniformity of required system reports

  • Supports monitoring student learning and occupational program review through data gathering and formatting, conducting descriptive analysis, and assisting with dissemination/report writing or presentations

  • Assists with institutional and program accreditation efforts through data gathering/collection, and communication with stakeholders

  • Coordinates with Data Processing to develop, maintain, and update queries and reports to fulfill recurring data needs for internal and external reporting requirements; creates and presents dynamic reports and data sets to support timely decision making.

  • Gathers, monitors, and reports data for Key Performance Indicators and strategic planning

  • Designs and maintains web survey instruments using SurveyMonkey® and performs online reporting; exports survey data to SPSS version 25/26 and performs necessary management or analyses; provides web survey support to end users; prepares and presents oral and written presentations of data findings

  • Produces tables, graphs, Microsoft Excel dashboards, and narrative analysis of data to easily display and summarize college data.

  • Provides general data support (i.e., data gathering/collection, communication with stakeholders) at-request for grant or other funding applications, occupational program planning and promotion, policy and procedure decision-making, and other institutional-level, program-level, and/or course-level decision-making

  • Keeps records of Research Requests and Institutional Review Board protocol submissions

  • Participates in professional development activities, in campus meetings, and serves on committees as required

  • Performs other related duties as assigned by the Director of Institutional Research, Planning, and Accreditation
  • Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in statistics, mathematics, sociology, economics, data science, informatics and/or related subject area; bachelor’s degree in unrelated area with formal training in statistics and data analysis may be considered
  • High level of mathematical skill and ability
  • Written and verbal communication skills
  • Data visualization skills in Microsoft Excel; experience working with Microsoft Power BI preferred
  • Accuracy and attention to details
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word applications
  • Proficiency in preferred data management and analysis software (i.e., SPSS, version 25)
  • Proficiency in preferred data collection software (i.e., SurveyMonkey®)
  • Proficiency in searching for and interpreting secondary data sources
  • Understanding of the scientific method of inquiry
  • Familiarity with research ethics and the mission of Institutional Review Board and human research protections
  • Experience working with other dashboard tools such as Microsoft Power BI is preferred
  • Ability to analyze, model and interpret data using basic statistical principles and testing (e.g., comparison of means, correlation, regression, time-series modeling, ANOVA, descriptive statistics)
  • Ability to develop and modify queries in the college administrative software- Ellucian Banner is preferred
  • Ability to learn MCCC database and data querying systems (i.e., Ellucian products, Colleague and Informer)
  • Ability to work well in a collaborative environment

    While performing duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate with others in person and on the telephone. Employee required to hear and distinguish normal sounds with some background noise. Employee must view and create written and electronic documents. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move objects of light to moderate weight of up to 25 pounds.

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in an office setting. The noise level in the work environment is generally quiet and sometimes moderate.
