The Center to Support Excellence in Teaching (CSET), a research center within the Graduate School of Education at Stanford University, seeks a full-time Elementary Program Manager to be part of a core team leading CSET's work in the support of the launch of a new K-12 international school in China. The new K-12 school's vision, mission, curriculum and instructional approaches are grounded in the practices and mindsets of Design Thinking, based on research by Stanford Graduate School of Education Professor (Teaching) Emerita Shelley Goldman.

What You'll Do:

Working in close partnership with a team comprised of the Project Lead, Cultural Liaison, a Post Doctoral Fellow focused on Learning Differences, Senior Research Associate, and international partners, the Elementary Program Manager is responsible for translating the conceptual vision to the elementary setting, managing the development of the instructional and curriculum frameworks, and professional learning experiences for the Kindergarten through Fifth Grade community at a new international school. These will be grounded in research backed best practices of teaching and learning as well as the innovation principles of design thinking.

Core duties will include:
  • Identify and recommend opportunities for new research associated with the project
  • Develop and implement research data collection plan
  • Contribute to and inform on strategic program planning and related funding
  • Contribute to outreach strategy related to program communications in later phases of the work
  • Closely work with project team


The Elementary Program Manager will be responsible for leading a team to:
  • Develop a K-5 instructional framework guided by Common Core standards
  • Develop K-5 curriculum frameworks in 4 core content areas (literature and writing, math, science, social studies)
  • Develop 4 sample K-5 curriculum units
  • Conceptualize, design, and facilitate a K-5 teacher professional learning experience that includes an intensive institute and an instructional coaching plan
  • Infuse the core practices of design thinking into the instructional and curriculum frameworks, and professional learning experiences

What You'll Bring:

We are seeking someone who is creative, highly collaborative, comfortable with iteration and ambiguity, and willing to work on a team. The Elementary Program Manager has the skills of project management, curriculum design and evaluation, and communication to work with multiple stakeholders. This person is also skilled in designing and creating culturally-responsive professional learning experiences for K-5. As a program manager, the ideal candidate will be able to identify and think through necessary steps of a project, set deadlines, recruit consultants, and hold self and others accountable to outcomes and deadlines.

Education & Experience:

Bachelor's degree and three years of relevant experience or combination of education, training, and relevant experience.

Preferred Education & Experience:

Advanced degree and at least three years of K-5 teaching
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Ability to develop program partnerships and funding sources.
  • Excellent oral, written, and analytical skills, exhibiting fluency in area of specialization.
  • Ability to oversee and direct staff.
  • Basic knowledge of managing budgets and developing financial plans.


Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Prior experience in the following areas:
  • Designing and implementing research-based instructional interventions
  • Professional learning experiences for instructional leaders and coaches
  • International teaching experience
  • Launching an international school in a fast-paced environment
  • Developing curriculum
  • Designing and implementing high-quality teacher professional learning experiences
  • A highly collaborative and flexible approach to the work
  • Advanced computer skills with a working knowledge of applications such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Google platform.


Location:

The location of the job is flexible and can be done remotely. Must be willing to travel to China as needed for the work and as aligned with Stanford Travel policies.
