The IT Technician 2 position will function within the Haslam College of Business’ (HCB) Office of Technology Integration Services (TIS).  This position's primary responsibility is for maintaining the operational integrity of the Audio-Visual/Information Technology (AV/IT) systems in the Haslam College of Business (both in HBB and in SMC).  The duties include but are not limited to: technical support, maintenance, documentation of classrooms, team rooms, conference rooms and any other technology enhanced room systems within these two buildings.  The position will also provide technical expertise as required for HCB faculty teaching or presenting in other campus facilities.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Provide daily telephone, remote, and in-person technical support for AV/IT systems in classrooms, team rooms, and conference rooms through the TIS Help Desk operation and in conjunction with the UTK Office of Information Technology (OIT). 
  • Provide assistance with the installation and maintenance of College audio-visual components, computer systems, signage displays, computer peripheral components and the upgrading of room systems hardware and software.
  • Provide technical assistance with the scheduling, editing and maintenance of the College's lecture capture system. 
  • Assist faculty with initial semester scheduling requests and impromptu requests and ensure recordings are uploaded properly and in a timely manner.  
  • Provide advice on system maintenance, upgrading, and operational requirements.
  • Perform first class customer service for AV/IT related questions and issues by maintaining a thorough knowledge of installed components and systems and maintaining a current knowledge of new and emerging technologies.


Qualifications
Qualifications:

Required Qualifications and Experience:

  • Vocational or technical training required
  • 3 years experience in working with audio-visual and/or computer support environment
  • Displayed technical knowledge of Apple Macintosh operating systems and related office and productivity software
  • Displayed technical knowledge of Microsoft Windows operating systems and related office and productivity software
  • Customer service experience
  • Working as a team member in a team-centric environment

Preferred Qualifications and Experience:

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree preferred
  • 3-5 years experience in working with audio-visual and/or computer support in a critical environment
  • Technical support experience with audio-visual control system operations and programming
 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Required:

  • Knowledge of both PC and Macintosh computer hardware and software
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Strong interpersonal, attention to detail, critical thinking, analytical, multi-tasking, communication, and presentation skills
  • Knowledge of technology planning and process improvement procedures and best practices
  • Knowledge of audio, video, computer and control systems operations
  • Knowledge of all AV and IT related items that have an effect on technologies for classrooms, team rooms, conference rooms, and special event spaces within Haslam College of Business
Preferred:

  • Knowledge of lecture capture systems and operational requirements
  • Operational and strategic planning experience
  • Customer service experience in a high-pressure technical environment
