Position Summary

The SUNAPSIS Analyst serves as the analyst of the MyOISS application, powered by the SUNAPSIS software package. SUNAPSIS is an MS SQL database which interacts directly with both the Department of Homeland Security’s Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) and MSU’s centralized software systems of record for students, employees, and visiting scholars. This individual will assist in design and maintenance of the SUNAPSIS system, interfaces and related applications. The SUNAPSIS Analyst will also perform a lead role in the planning, development, implementation, and support of new SUNAPSIS functionality in MyOISS. The incumbent will be the primary liaison between the MSU OISS, MSU IT Services, and the SUNAPSIS vendor. The SUNAPSIS Analyst provides end user support, develops training materials, and presents trainings. This position also assists with other technology needs within the unit and consults with units across campus about relevant data. The incumbent must be a Legal Permanent Resident or US Citizen to serve as a Designated School Official in the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS).

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Ensures that institutional data concerning international students and scholars are accurate and updated in a timely and compliant manner.
  • Monitors data changes/updates to confirm consistency between systems, performing audits as needed.
  • Collects, interprets and defines SUNAPSIS requirements and incorporates into functional specifications; maintains and updates system to ensure batch processing with US government system; troubleshoots errors in coordination with IT Services and the SUNAPSIS vendor.
  • Develops and executes test plans for SUNAPSIS and all related MSU systems of record configuration and upgrades.
  • Develops and documents business processes needed to fully implement SUNAPSIS functionality, documents technical requests and procedures.
  • Assists with communication to staff and university stakeholders regarding technical changes that may impact processing and compliance for international students and scholars
  • Develops E-Forms and templates for use by international students, scholars, and university stakeholders.
  • Expands SUNAPSIS capabilities by configuring and implementing advanced functionalities such as checklists.
  • Provides training support to users through personal contact, workshops, group meetings, and by preparing educational/informational materials in order to ensure effective systems usage.
  • Actively participates in SUNAPSIS user groups.
  • Assist with university reporting needs for international students and scholars external to OISS and lead reporting within OISS, training additional staff as appropriate.
  • Serves as cross functional team member across technologies and other information system groups.
  • Organize and catalog requests/tickets from multiple stakeholders and prioritize according to guidance from supervisor.
  • Provide primary supervision for student worker(s).
  • Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills

    The job requires: Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree in business, management information systems, or related field; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in enterprise software development and/or testing; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. The incumbent must be a Legal Permanent Resident or US Citizen to serve as a Designated School Official in the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS).

    Desired Qualifications
  • Experience supporting the SUNAPSIS application in the context of an academic visa sponsor.
  • Basic knowledge of MS SQL.
  • Basic knowledge of Oracle SQL
  • Basic knowledge of PeopleSoft Campus Solutions
  • Basic knowledge of federal regulations governing F and J visas.
