Position Summary

MSU Human Resources is hiring an HR Analyst to conduct employee job reclassification reviews, as part of the Hiring, Compensation and Classification Team. This position is responsible for receiving incoming requests, performing analysis of an employee’s position, determining the appropriate FLSA exemptions status of the position and appropriate MSU job classification placement. Additionally, this position will work independently with MSU departments to gather further information as necessary and communicate and justify outcomes of the reclassification review process. This position is also responsible for analyzing employee pay increases accompanying the reclassification process and enforcing union contractual compliance and internal pay equity.

As a member of the Hiring, Compensation and Classification Team, the HR Analyst will work independently most of the time to communicate with departments and perform analysis, while additionally consulting with other analysts on the team to promote consistency in reclassification decisions. Additionally, this position may be called upon to work with the Office of Employee Relations to explain reclassification decisions resulting from union inquiries and grievance processes.

Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills

Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in Human Resources Administration, Labor and Industrial Relations, or a related field; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in human resources administration, data and/or statistical analysis, and/or program development and implementation in a Human Resource area related to the area of employment; or an equivalent combination of education and experience; and may require Certified Compensation Professional, Certified Employee Benefits Specialist, or other certification related to the human resources area of employment.

Desired Qualifications
  • Experience in applying FLSA exemption tests to employee positions to determine exemption status.
  • Experience working with a job classification structure and applying and implementing changes based on a classification structure.
  • Ability to work independently and communicate effectively and professionally with all levels of management within an organization.
  • 3-5 years’ experience working in Human Resources for a higher education organization.
