Position Summary:

The Registered Professional Nurse provides COVID-19 testing to eligible UGA community members (e.g., students, employees and dependents). The Registered Professional Nurse works closely with the Nurse Practitioner COVID-19 Testing Project Lead, COVID-19 testing and laboratory staff, and patients who are being screened and tested for COVID-19. Responsibilities include intake history, collection of insurance and demographic information, swabbing for COVID-19 testing, sample processing, and some contract tracing.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies:

Computer skills include Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Windows. Basic Keyboarding skills, Experience with electronic practice management and health records.
Skill to perform and document patient intake history. Ability to coordinate some contract tracing following GA Department of Public Health guidelines.

Physical Demands:

Active throughout the 8-hour workday including walking, standing, sitting, reaching, typing, bending, talking, listening, pushing, pulling, lifting up to 20 pounds, and driving. Work outside to perform COVID-19 testing.

Duties/Responsibilities:

COVID-19 Testing: Performs and documents patient history. Knowledge of COVID-19, including recommendations and guidelines. Manages patient flow and scheduling (if applicable) of COVID-19 testing. Performs specimen collection for COVID-19 testing. Helps in the processing of COVID-19 testing patient samples. Practices within the scope of the RN Nurse Practice Act of Georgia. Transport test samples to Lab. Responsible for assembly of test kits.

Coordination of Testing Location: Ensures appropriate staffing. Serves as clinical lead of the testing location in the absence of the Nurse Practitioner COVID-19 Testing Project Lead. Ensures appropriate medical and laboratory supplies are ordered and stocked. Troubleshoots issues on site. Communicates and coordinates any issues that need to be addressed with the Nurse Practitioner COVID-19 Testing Project Lead.
