Position Summary:

This is semi-skilled work performing roof system maintenance as part of a 5-7 man shop responsible for maintenance of building roof systems on the UGA Campus. Additionally, the shop is responsible for solving building foundation leak problems. The general duties of this position are to inspect, maintain and repair campus roof and foundation systems and make minor modifications as needed.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies:

Experience in maintenance and repair work as a helper to a journeyman; or any equivalent combination of training and experience.
Service-oriented temperament.
Ability to complete work request, fill out work order forms, and have a good working relationship with others.
Knowledge of the occupational hazards of: Tools and equipment associated with maintenance activities and mechanical and electrical building equipment.
*Use of standard hand tools and equipment as common to the mechanical trades.

Physical Demands:

* Bend, squat, kneel, climb stairs and work with hands above the head.
* Lift up to 50 lbs, load and unload necessary equipment.
* Work from a standard and/or extended ladder.
* Perform necessary labor in adverse climate (hot, cold, and adverse weather conditions). throughout work shift (8 hour day/40 hour wk).

Duties/Responsibilities:

Maintain, troubleshoot and repair campus roof systems to include: membranes, curbs, gutters, flashing, and roof drain systems. Normally performed assisting journeymen roofers but at times independently when within capabilities.

Make minor modifications to existing roof systems in support of new building equipment affecting roofs, i.e. adding curbs and anchors for new roof mounted equipment and creating proper penetrations for new stacks and vents.
