Loyola University Chicago (LUC), College of Arts and Sciences, Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry seeks qualified candidates for an appointment as Assistant Professor (tenure track), beginning Fall 2022. The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry has 31 full-time faculty serving ~400 majors and is located on the university’s Lakeshore Campus. As an urban-based Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry dedicated to mentoring a diverse student body, many of whom come from under-represented and under-served populations, we especially encourage applications from candidates from under-represented groups. We also encourage applications from scholars committed to interdisciplinarity (i.e., working with colleagues across different subfields and disciplines) and the successful pursuit of external grants. This position involves maintaining a competitive, externally funded research program and participating in undergraduate- and graduate-level teaching. Candidates will contribute to teaching biochemistry and/or other portions of the curriculum (based on the candidate’s preference and expertise). In addition to teaching and pursuing their own scholarship, candidates are also expected to involve undergraduate students in research and to engage in service for the department, college, and university.

Applicants should have a Ph.D. in Biochemistry or a closely related field and have completed or currently hold a postdoctoral appointment. Evidence of significant scholarly activity in both prior doctoral and postdoctoral positions is preferred. Preference also will be given to candidates whose research record and interests focus on fundamental aspects of biochemistry. Applicants must demonstrate the potential for classroom instructional excellence and a strong ethic of student mentorship or provide evidence of such capacities. The candidate also should be willing to support the mission of LUC and the goals of a Jesuit Catholic Education.
