It also contributes to the undergraduate majors in Neuroscience (600+ students). For more information about the Department of Psychology, please visit its website at www.luc.edu/psychology/. The position is in humanistic psychology, and as such, we are seeking a developmental psychologist whose research, teaching, and service activities concern issues of race, ethnicity, and/or culture during the developmental periods of early childhood, middle childhood, and/or adolescence. The ideal candidate’s work should advance research-based understandings of development and their applications in the real world. Applications are invited from all areas of developmental psychology including, but not limited to, children’s linguistic, cognitive, or social-emotional development. Located on Chicago’s vibrantly multicultural North Side, LUC is committed to creating an inclusive, responsive community of faculty, students, and staff. As an urban-based department dedicated to mentoring a diverse student body, many of whom come from systemically excluded and under-served populations, we especially encourage applications from candidates from under-represented groups. Thus, we encourage applicants from all backgrounds, especially those traditionally underrepresented in psychology. Special consideration will be given to applicants whose teaching and mentoring experiences include an explicit commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. For additional information about Loyola’s current anti-racism initiatives, see https://www.luc.edu/academicaffairs/aboutus/communications/ourroadtowardsracialjustice/). The successful candidate will demonstrate an ability to maintain a vigorous, ongoing program of research and publication; to secure external grant funding to support that research; and to contribute in a substantial way to the department’s teaching mission at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.

Qualifications:

A PhD in Developmental Psychology, a strong record of productive research that includes securing external funding, clear evidence of excellence in teaching and student mentorship, and a history of mentoring and teaching students from diverse backgrounds. All candidates must be willing to support the mission of LUC and the goals of a Jesuit Catholic Education, including diversity and inclusion aims related to teaching and research. We also encourage applications from scholars committed to interdisciplinarity (i.e., working with colleagues across different subfields and disciplines) and the successful pursuit of external grants.

Study-abroad programs at our Rome and Beijing Centers provide engagement with the global community and economy.

While rigorous programs of research and study are one hallmark of a Jesuit education, we're not just preparing students for a career, we're preparing them for life. We challenge our students to learn broadly, to think critically, to serve generously, to lead with integrity, to respect diversity. We come from all faiths and ethnic and economic backgrounds, with a common purpose of building a better society.

Recognizing Loyola’s excellence in education, U.S.News and World Report has ranked Loyola consistently among the "top national universities" in its annual publications, and named the University a "best value" in its 2008 rankings.

Our faculty take a person-centered approach to education. They’re not just here to teach students what they know, they’re here to teach them to think critically and creatively and to reach for their own discoveries.
