Position Summary:

The Information Security & Identity Management division manages the University’s Information Security Office and Identity Management. The Security Office is responsible for coordinating and ensuring that information security across the University is consistent with industry best practices and the University’s compliance obligations. Identity Management (IdM) identifies individuals within an enterprise or group and defines and controls the access they have to information and resources within a computer network based on their roles and circumstances.

Reporting to the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO), the Information Security Operations Manager manages and administers information security operations functions, participates in the development and monitoring of strategic initiatives and promotes the development of staff to fulfill the goals and objectives of the Information Security Office (ISO) as well as relevant projects, personnel, programs and activities:

* Manage day-to-day operational activities of information security specialists in keeping with published policies, procedures and initiatives
* Support the ISO’s budget and other planning efforts
* Represent the Information Security Office in operationally related meetings.
* Assist the CISO and team with the development of internal process, procedure and workflow enhancements for the Information Security Office operations, especially as it pertains to incident response, firewall operations, compliance, and user awareness training.
* Work with University business units to implement the policies, procedures, processes, controls, and methods needed to mitigate risk to information assets and ensure that the University’s mission-critical information resources are appropriately protected.
* Draft new policy and modifications as needed
* Monitor help desk tickets assigned to the team. Ensure Service Level Agreement (SLA) levels are being met, customers’ problems are being solved, tickets are being coded properly and tickets are being resolved as soon as feasible
* Support ticket escalations
* Complete employee work plans, competency assessments, and performance reviews in a timely manner
* Support the development of staff to fulfill the goals and objectives of the unit

This position calls for a high level of integrity, good judgement, knowledge concerning issues of privacy and confidentiality, excellent oral and written communication skills, ability to work as an independent, productive, responsible, self?motivated member of a team in high pressure situations while maintaining a calm, customer friendly perspective.

The position requires occasional participation in the 24/7 on-call rotation.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

Masters’ and 2-4 years’ experience or Bachelors and 3-5 years’ experience Or will accept a combination of related education and experience in substitution.

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience:

Required:
* Experience in information technology and Information Security.
* 1-2 years of supervisory experience is required

Preferred:
* 5+ years’ experience in information technology.
* 3+ years in Information Security.
* Experience with the State of North Carolina’s procurement and human resources processes and procedures.
* Experience leading large, enterprise-level projects and information technology implementations.
* Graduate degree/s in a related area.
* Information security training and/or certifications is a plus, especially CISSP, CRISC, or CISM certifications.
* Experience managing information technology professionals in a university environment a plus

Location: UNC is located in the heart of Chapel Hill, the best college town in America! It's a friendly town of about 40,000 in the geographical center of North Carolina. Chapel Hill is at the western point of the Research Triangle, an area of about one million people, comprised of Chapel Hill, the cities of Durham and Raleigh, and the Research Triangle Park, home of many corporate offices and scientific research centers.
