Job Summary/Basic Function:

This position, which reports to the Director of Campus Life, is critical in creating and incorporating the vision of engagement to our fraternity and sorority life community at Millersville. There is a strong focus on student development and use of CAS Standards within the division of Student Affairs and Enrollment Management (SAEM), which department is an integral unit. The assistant director provides support and guidance to sorority and fraternity chapters and governing councils in program development, risk reduction, engagement opportunities, expansion, and the promotion of leadership development for community members. This position also supports large-scale student engagement programs for Campus Life.

Annual Salary: $49,565.00, plus comprehensive benefits, including:

  • Health insurance – Low bi-weekly premium. Employees pay 5% of bi-weekly salary for benefit coverage with ability to pay 2.5% when participating in the wellness program.
  • Dental insurance – Coverage is free to employee and dependents after 90 days
  • Vision insurance – Coverage is free to employee and dependents after 90 days.
  • Group life insurance - equal to annual salary (up to $50,000) at no cost to the employee
  • Voluntary Group Life and Accident Insurance – available for purchase at low rates for additional employee coverage as well as coverage for spouse and children
  • Long Term Disability Insurance – available for purchase at low rates with either a 90 or 180-day waiting period
  • Retirement – 2 plans to choose from

  • Vacation leave– up to 10.4 days accrued for the first year, increases to up to 15.6 days per year after first year

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree.
  • 3 years of professional experience within higher education.
  • 2 years of direct experience working within Fraternity and Sorority Life encompassing culturally based organizations on a college campus or national headquarters.
  • Significant experience in large scale event planning on/for a college campus.
  • Evidence of ability to work with students from diverse cultures and racial and ethnic groups.
  • Excellent oral, written, interpersonal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.
  • Excellent analytical, problem solving, detail-oriented, multitasking, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent time management skills with an ability to set and meet deadlines.
  • Creative, innovative, and strategic thinking in ability to work independently and with others.
  • Ability to anticipate future trends and problems and plan for them accordingly.
  • Evidence of a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to work remotely if required due to university procedures.
  • Flexible work schedule as dictated by the needs of the university community.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Higher Education, College Student Personnel, or Organizational Leadership.
  • Experience with social Greek-lettered organizations in either an advisor or leadership capacity.
  • Demonstrated working-knowledge and understanding of culturally based Greek lettered organizations.
  • Active/current status with an inter/national fraternity/sorority- service/social/civic organization beyond local chapter.
  • Demonstrated experiences with student programming, initiating, planning, executing, and assessing student programs and services.
  • Experience incorporating diversity, equity, and inclusion within FSL and Campus Activities.
  • Experience managing budgets.
  • Excellent marketing and digital design skills coupled with a strong background in various software programs.

Job Description:

Description of Primary Duties for Fraternity and Sorority Life:

  • Promotes a positive profile of the fraternity and sorority community by providing overall advisement, training, and support of the recognized social fraternities and sororities on campus.
  • Assists in the development of a responsible fraternity and sorority community through advising the IFC, PHA, CGC (NPHC, MGC and NALFO), and other fraternity and sorority life councils and committees.
  • Assists in establishing and/or maintaining the position of the fraternity and sorority community within the collegial environment by ensuring their understanding of and compliance with all University policies, the Student Code of Rights and Responsibilities, the Fraternity and Sorority Life Governance Statement, as well as municipal, state, and federal laws.
  • Develop and manage campus-wide Hazing Prevention Education and Programming throughout the year in partnership with various campus and SAEM departments.
  • Create and sustain a partnership with Alumni Engagement for FSL fundraising opportunities.
  • Addresses fraternity and sorority judicial matters as necessary, assists the Office of Student Conduct and Community Standards, and communicates with the police substation.
  • Develops a cooperative relationship with alumni advisors and general headquarters by working with them on individual chapter matters.
  • Serve as SAEM primary contact for CGC Unity Plot/Memorial Walkway management with facilities and alumni engagement.
  • Manages financial resources, within budget limits, in accordance with university guidelines under the guidance and supervision of the Director of Campus Life by planning, developing, and monitoring the departmental budget.
  • Assists in establishing and continuing a cooperative relationship between the fraternity and sorority community, Millersville/Lancaster, and University communities by facilitating the Fraternity and Sorority Life Governance Statement, serving as a liaison and communicating planned student activities to the fraternity and sorority life leadership and encouraging their participation.
  • Ensures that the goals and objectives of Fraternity and Sorority Life and its programs are included in the annual goals and objectives for the Department of Campus Life.
  • As a member of the Department of Campus Life team, serve as a general advisor to all campus student organizations.
  • Contributes to a work environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds.
  • Remains competent and current through self-directed professional reading, developing professional contacts with colleagues, attending professional development courses, and attending training and/or courses required by Director of Campus Life and/or AVP for Student Affairs and Enrollment Management.
  • Supports the overall operation of the Department of Campus Life and contributes to the department’s success by performing all other duties as assigned.

Description of Primary Duties for Student Engagement/Campus Activities:
  • Assist with the co-management of student engagement platform and student activities calendar.
  • As a member of the Department of Campus Life team, serve as a general advisor to all campus student organizations (fsl and no fsl)
  • Serve a Campus Life liaison to university-sponsored student organizations.
  • Oversee the implementation of new initiatives within the Department of Campus Life
  • Manage the implementation of summer engagement, final stretch and family weekend programming sponsored by the Department of Campus Life
  • Supervise the Department of Campus Life Graduate Assistant and Graduate Assistant for FSL.
  • All other duties as assigned .

Essential Functions:

  • Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.

  • Extensive writing and verbal communications skills.
  • Basic math skills (add, subtract, multiply, divide).
  • Understanding of written and verbal directions.
