Tulane University seeks to hire a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Modern Iberian and North African Studies to begin July 1, 2022. This is a joint position in the Department of Spanish and Portuguese and Tulane’s emerging program in Middle Eastern and North African Studies (MENA). The successful candidate will join a vibrant cohort of scholars and contribute to the growth of our MENA program, which is conducting a cluster hire of three new interdisciplinary tenure-line positions this year. We seek applicants whose work engages twentieth- or twenty-first-century literary and cultural production in Spain and North Africa. The successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in Spanish and English. Candidates should have the PhD in hand, an active and innovative research agenda, and native or near-native proficiency in Spanish. Proficiency in Arabic is preferred. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to engage with Tulane’s Arabic studies program and other interdisciplinary programs depending on their research and teaching interests.
