Responsibilities

  • Assist and provide feedback to Pre-Clinical COM course directors for the supervision and execution of Pre-Clinical courses, including assistance with course planning, scheduling of academic teaching events, communication with guest teaching faculty, interfacing with the Office of Testing, finalization of grades, delivering the end of course report to the COM curriculum committee (DOCC), addressing student needs and concerns, and completing curriculum assessment.
  • Monitor, assess, and meet with UT students with course failures or otherwise have academic difficulties, including the planning of remediation or the referral to the Student Performance Committee and/or the Dean, as policy requires.
  • Create, refine, and maintain Pre-Clinical COM academic calendar, daily schedule, and global block schedules.
  • Reserve space necessary for the delivery of the Pre-Clinical COM curriculum.
  • In support of both Pre-Clinical COM student support and curriculum delivery, serve as a liaison with Office of Testing, Registrar’s Office, IT, Financial Aid, Department of Clinical Education, Department of Student Affairs, Department Chairs, Student Performance Committee, Student Leaders, Department of Tracks and Special Programs, Administration, and Faculty.
  • Review and approve/reject all UT student excused absence requests from required academic events.
  • Coordinate makeup and remediation examinations with the testing center and course directors.
  • Interface with and provide support to guest faculty as needed.
  • Act as a liaison between students and administration for issues and questions concerning the curriculum, schedule, academic and personal issues, excused absences, and COM activities.
  • Assist in the preparation for and with actual visits by accrediting bodies.
  • Participate in scholarly work with colleagues and students, resulting in publications and presentations.
  • Serve on various committees and task forces, as assigned by the Dean or their designee.
  • Actively participate in the education and instruction of RVU students, through didactic, lab, active learning, or other teaching modalities, as applicable.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Assistant Dean of Preclinical Curriculum, the Assistant Dean of Preclinical Program Assessment, the COM Dean and/or their designee.
