The School of Education at the University of California, Irvine is carrying out a search for a faculty member in the area of science education. We are interested in candidates whose research contributes to expanding the learning opportunities of minoritized communities, addresses racial and socio-economic inequities, and supports educators to build on students and communities’ cultural and linguistic assets and advocate for diversity, equity, and social justice. We welcome applicants from any disciplinary perspective and methodological tradition, whose scholarship focuses on science teaching and learning at any level of K-12 schooling and/or any stage of the teacher education continuum, from teacher preparation, to professional development, to supporting the development of teacher educators. Candidates will be expected to contribute their expertise to our CalTeach and MAT teacher preparation programs as well as our undergraduate and PhD programs. A successful candidate will have experience and/or interest in engaging with local partnerships via existing networks and university centers.
The School of Education at UC Irvine has devoted substantial resources to supporting research on teaching and learning, and engaging with the diverse surrounding communities to promote research-practice partnerships and professional development opportunities for educators across the K-12 continuum (http://education.uci.edu/community_engagement.html). UCI is home to a vibrant, collaborative research community committed to improving science education. The Center for Research on Teacher Development and Professional Practice fosters collaboration among faculty, students, and practitioners on projects focused on a variety of aspects of teacher development and learning and on the study of teaching and teacher professional practice. The Orange County Education Advancement Network is a network of partnerships between the School of Education and local K-12 schools and non-profit organizations that engage in actionable scholarship to positively impact the diverse communities of Orange County and Southern California. The Teacher Academy offers teachers and educational leaders with professional learning opportunities to improve instructional practice to advance equity and justice in K-12 contexts. The Center for Educational Partnerships hosts the UCI Science Project, a California subject matter program.
We welcome applications at the Assistant Professor level. Applicants should have a PhD or EdD by July 1, 2022 and a record of scholarship, teaching and mentorship, and service commensurate to their career stage.
