The Career Development Center at Emerson is the hub for promoting planning, developing and educating students and alumni regarding their individualized career paths. The Career Development Center serves as a complement to the classroom and workplace experience. We educate using different modalities tailored to individual needs.
The Associate Director is responsible for all services and programming (such as) related to undergraduate students. This will include counseling, career education courses, internship preparation and resource development.

SUPERVISION
  • Recruit, train, and supervise graduate intern and/or Peer Career Advisors that are in line with the needs of the department
  • Supervise and delegate responsibilities to Internship Administrator
  • Provide initial and ongoing training along with having mentorship conversations



INDIVIDUAL COUNSELING
  • Counsel, coach and advise undergraduate students and recent alumni on career development issues through individual appointments, phone/video appointments and email correspondence. Issues include, but are not limited to, self- assessment, career decision-making and planning, choice of major, internship/job search strategies, resume and cover letter preparation, networking, and interviewing.
  • Input individual counseling session notes into Handshake.
  • Assist in preparation of Career Services reports, as needed.


LEADERSHIP AND PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT
  • Collaborate with colleagues, faculty, and student organizations to plan, market, publicize, and implement career- and industry-related programs, panels, speakers, workshops, site visits, and events to help educate constituents about career options and industry issues/trends, and connect them with industry professionals and organizations.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to develop, implement, market, and/or assist with major Career Services initiatives including but not limited to Internship Fairs.
  • Present standing workshops on various career-related topics, such as resume and cover letter writing, interviewing, networking, and job searching. Contribute to the development of and present workshops on new topics as needed.
  • Intentional planning and oversight of career courses for undergraduate students.
  • Contribute to the leadership, strategy and direction of Career Services and to the development of the staff.
  • Maintain relevant career resources for websites. Create blog posts and new resources as needed.



INDUSTRY KNOWLEDGE AND ACADEMIC LIAISON
  • Stay abreast of career services and relevant industry news and information by participating in professional association activities and professional development opportunities, attending industry networking events, reading industry and trade publications, and maintaining faculty, industry, and employer contacts. Update colleagues and constituents as appropriate.
  • Serve as liaison to academic departments for requests for Career Development Classroom Workshops or Programs; delegate programs to staff as appropriate.
  • The Associate Director is responsible for all services and programming (such as) related to undergraduate students. This will include counseling, career education courses, internship preparation and resource development.


Your Skills and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Higher Ed, Counseling, HR or related field
  • Knowledge of Strong Interest Inventory, MBTI, and/or other assessment instruments
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; solid presentation and public speaking skills; excellent interpersonal skills; ability to effectively work with students from a broad range of backgrounds and life experiences; a commitment to diversity, equity, access and inclusion efforts.
  • Experience with the development and facilitation of career development content.
  • Past recruitment, training, and supervision of staff and student employees.
  • Five to seven year's experience in Career Services, College Relations, or related field preferred.
  • Nice to Have:
  • Master's degree in Higher Education, Counseling, Human Resources, or related field
  • Experience with databases, Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Google Suite, Career Services vendor products (i.e. Handshake, Adobe Photoshop, PC/Mac hardware and software preferred).
  • Strategic planning, decision-making skills; self-motivated, detail oriented, organized, flexible.
  • Experience in/knowledge of arts and/or communications career fields preferred.


Grade of Position: A17E

Scheduled Weekly Hours: 36.25

Hiring Range: $75,100.00 - $78,700.00
