Academic & Enterprise Systems facilitates student success systems across campus, including the University Student Information System, Document Management Systems, Customer Relationship Management (CRM), and Student Success Platforms. In close coordination with campus users, AES identifies and develops functionality within these systems to support student and academic success. Additionally, AES develops and maintains data integrations between systems and is responsible for the accuracy of student data on campus. Under the direction of Academic Affairs Administrators, the System Architect is responsible for supporting critical enterprise system design and development for the University. This includes overseeing the technical planning, design, implementation, management, and maintenance of complex systems; identifying, designing, and developing system solutions to meet business needs; and partnering with business owners across campus to configure system solutions to streamline, and expedite services to students, faculty, and staff.

The Systems Architect will help to identify which system is best to build, design and develop solutions; review the system solution designs developed by other developers and provide recommendations for best approaches; and design and implement university-wide systems and new functionalities. This position provides leadership, technical expertise and consulting support to University Administrators, the Senior Associate Vice President for Academic Systems, and other partners. The Systems Architect is the primary data architect responsible for comprehensively understanding the data elements within and between systems.

Responsibilities Include:

• Providing leadership over University Enterprise Systems including Student Information System, system integrations, document management systems, student success platforms and CRMs.

• Identifying existing and emerging technologies available to meet business needs. Make recommendation on which system to pursue development for each business need.

• Analyzing, developing requirements, and prioritizing designs, tests, documents and implements complex integrated technology systems to maximize effective management, business process improvements.

• Aligning technology work with the university mission.

• Directing strategic projects across academic affairs and the university.

• Coordinating the development of project requirements and evaluation criteria.

• Organizing project timelines and work schedules

• Providing technical and business leadership, expertise, and guidance to University administrators in analyzing complex systems and business processes.

• Leveraging software and hardware systems to meet information technology needs of the university.

• Developing and presenting solutions to the Senior Associate Vice President to support core business processes.

• Serving as a key contributor and coordinate of the enterprise system roadmaps and strategic priorities.

• Serving as a key data architect obtaining an expertise in institutional and state system data elements and how they are utilized across enterprise systems. Including understanding student privacy guidelines.

Have primary responsibility in tracking and communicating any changes to data elements.

• Maintaining high level expertise in the Enterprise Systems including and not limited to Student Information system and its interfaces, data warehouses, document management systems, CRMs.

• Obtaining information on the systems utilized by the University as well as potential systems/hardware.

• Facilitating professional development

• Keeping current in new technology and business developments, products and processes.

• Fulfilling all job responsibilities and represent the university in compliance with federal and institutional policies and guidelines of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).

• Actively engaging in training and awareness of FERPA and promoting FERPA compliance in all interactions with WCU Staff, faculty, students, and families.

• Maintaining all records, data, and conversations confidentially in compliance with federal and institutional FERPA policies and guidelines.

• Performing other duties as assigned and/or as needed to provide timely, accurate, and excellent customer service and meet the needs of AES and the University.

• Participating in ongoing training related to policy and technical tools.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree

• Minimum of six years as a high-level analyst

• Demonstrated experience with project management, system implementation and business process redesign

Preferred Qualifications

• Education in Computer Science or a related field

• Extensive experience working in higher education

• Demonstrated experience implementing/transitions to new Student Information Systems

• Demonstrated experience with Ellucian configuration, extensibility and user training

• Demonstrated experience in data management and ensuring data accuracy within and between systems Special Instructions
