Job Description
Positions are open to current Sarah Lawrence College employees only.

Corporals assist the Sergeants, Lieutenant, Director and Associate Directors of Campus Safety and provides task-supervision to all Campus Safety personnel in support of the College's safety and security operations. Maintains a safe and secure environment for students, faculty, staff and visitors by monitoring the safety and security conditions of the campus, and responds to all incidents as they occur and ensures proper documentation for any incidents and activity.

Essential Duties Summary
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE (BUT NOT LIMITED TO): Supervise and respond to all incidents and accidents.
Notify the Director & Associate Directors of all incidents and reports.
Check all memos, schedules, and documents pertinent to Public Safety.
Brief incoming supervisors of all daily events and information.
Ensure radios and other equipment is ready for the ensuing tour.
Check all inventoried equipment before signing anything out.
Issue equipment at the beginning of tour and hold a brief muster / roll call with the Officers outlying and informing them of their duties.
Ensure that all openings/closings schedules are done on time and making any necessary adjustments for additional requests.
Have Westland’s Desk perform radio and position checks of all officers.
Check all entries in the logbook at the Westland’s Desk.
Ensure all reports are filled out correctly.
Patrol and check the campus, conduct post checks at least twice per tour.
Check all College-owned vehicles.
Ensure all meal breaks are completed on time.
Observe and detect any criminal activity or violations of Sarah Lawrence College rules and regulations.
Responds to unusual circumstances and secures emergency aid when needed.
Obtains help by sounding alarms or using radio communications.
Prevents loss and damage by reporting irregularities; informing violators of policy and procedures; and reporting building and facility related issues such as flooding, poor or faulty lighting, trip hazards, etc.
Controls traffic by directing vehicle and pedestrian traffic.
Takes accurate field notes of unusual occurrences and completes reports by recording observations, information, occurrences, and surveillance activities.
Maintains organization’s public image and reputation by complying with rules, regulations and legal requirements.
Perform all other related duties as assigned by Director and Associate Directors of Campus Safety.

Required Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS INCLUDE (BUT NOT LIMITED TO):
  • Certified by The New York State Security Guard Training Act.
  • Possesses a valid New York State Security Guard License.
  • Possesses a valid New York State Driver’s License.
  • Fully trained in CPR - 1ST AID and Defibrillator or ability to gain such certification.
  • Assists the Police, Fire Dept. and Medical Service personnel when responding to incidents or emergencies on campus.
  • Provides supervision and direction to the Campus Safety officers working his/her tour of duty.
  • Initiates Counseling and disciplinary action where warranted.
  • Responsible for formulating training agendas and the training of newly hired and current security personnel.
  • Evaluates the Campus Safety personnel on his /her tour continuously and formally and reports to the Director, Associate Directors, Lieutenant and Sergeants in Campus Safety.
  • Detailed oriented with satisfactory literacy, writing and documentation abilities coupled with basic computer skills.
  • Ability to work well with diverse populations; and demonstrated level of inter-cultural competence.
  • Ability to follow standard operating procedures, training curriculum, and directives.
  • Ability to respond to emergencies and crises and to maintain order and personal composure.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Present for all special and mandated events. (i.e. commencements, opening days, formals; etc.)
  • Good moral fitness and ethical standards.
  • Ability to operate electronic security & fire alarm systems along with any emergency equipment.
