The School of Social Work, in the College of Professional Programs at Eastern Washington University, invites applications for a Tenure-track Assistant Professor to begin mid-September 2022. The School is a part of the College of Professional Programs, which offers opportunities for creative interdisciplinary teaching and research. The BASW and MSW programs prepare students for generalist and advanced generalist social work practice in both rural and urban communities, offering elective courses in such areas of practice as behavioral health, aging, child welfare, healthcare, disabilities, and domestic violence. Responsibilities:
Successful candidates will have teaching responsibilities in both the BASW and MSW programs. The faculty member is expected to teach social work practice courses at the undergraduate and the graduate levels. All faculty are expected to teach in our hybrid programs, which requires proficiency or willingness to learn to develop and teach courses using the university's online platform and to employ online teaching methods and tools. There will likely be occasional travel to our satellite teaching sites in Spokane and Everett, WA. All faculty are expected to actively participate in assessment of student learning and to engage in effective teaching. We are seeking candidates with teaching experience, social work practice, and/or scholarship in one or more of the following areas.   1. Microsystemic practice with advanced clinical knowledge and skills in behavioral and/or mental health/trauma-informed care.
  2. Leadership and management.
  3. Research.
  4. Policy practice.
  5. Children, youth and families in any practice setting, including child welfare.
  6. Gerontology/aging.


Position is open until further notice; screening will begin on November 8, 2021.

Required Qualifications:
  • PhD in Social Work or closely related field from an Accredited University; ABD candidates close to degree completion will be considered, PhD completed by September 16th, 2022 would result in a tenure track appointment for current academic year. Otherwise, lecturer appointment. Then if PhD completed after September 16th and before June 15th would result in tenure track position in the following year.
  • An MSW degree from a CSWE accredited program or the international equivalent;
  • A minimum of two years post-MSW degree direct social work practice experience;
  • Demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching, which may be evidenced by providing training or supervision in the workplace; and
  • Demonstrated ability to apply a culturally responsive and flexible approach that is supportive to the diverse needs, including universal access, of our students, faculty, staff, and the public.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Demonstrated ability to teach in an online format using synchronous and asynchronous components;
  • Practice experience supported by a record of accomplishments that address the following needs:
    • Leadership, supervision and/or administration in any agency and/or community practice setting;
    • Children, youth and families in any practice setting including child welfare;
    • Micro practice with advanced clinical knowledge and skills
    • Gerontology/Aging.


  • A demonstrated commitment to promoting social justice through teaching and community service activities.

Job Duties:
% of Time: 100
Responsibility / Duty: A Faculty Activity Plan will be developed by the end of the first quarter of the selected candidate’s appointment, and will consist of a combination of teaching, research, and service and/or release time to perform administrative duties, as negotiated and as needed to meet the business needs of the department.
   
80% Teaching: teaching workload for Assistant Professors typically include: 
  • Teaching 36 credits per academic year, subject to Department needs, but to include online courses and/or on-campus courses in Cheney and Spokane, WA. 
  • The faculty member is expected to teach social work practice courses at the undergraduate and the graduate levels.  All faculty are expected to teach in our hybrid programs. 



Teaching includes the following additional responsibilities as defined in the faculty CBA: 
  •  Meet all scheduled classes. 
  •  Plan, organize and inform students of course content, texts, readings, assignments, attendance expectations and methods of evaluation including grading scales. 
  •  Schedule and attend office hours. 
  •  Turn in grades according to established deadlines. 
  •  Additionally, all faculty are expected to engage in effective teaching and assessment of student learning. 
 
20% Scholarship & Service (Typically 10% each)
  • Pursue productive research, scholarship and/or creative activities, including professional activities leading to publication, performance, and/or formal presentation in the field. 
  • This position will be expected to engage in service through department, college, university, and community/civic organizations, including service on committees.

Conditions of Employment:
The required start date for this position is Sept 16, 2022. To be considered eligible for appointment into the position, applicants must be available and able to start in the position no later than Sept 16, 2022. This position, during the course of university employment will be involved in the receipt of, or accountability for, university funds or other items of value; as well as the unsupervised access with the developmentally disabled, vulnerable adults or children under the age of 16. The offer of employment is contingent upon successful completion and passing of a background check prior to beginning employment.

All new employees must comply with EWU immunization Policy 602-02 and provide proof of immunity or vaccination to MMR and proof they are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 before beginning work at EWU. Waivers for the immunization requirements are available for medical or sincerely held religious beliefs.

Note: Interviews might be conducted via Zoom (camera must be enabled). While we anticipate being open for in-person instruction for academic year 2022-23, should Washington State or university pandemic restrictions disallow for in-person instruction, then courses will be taught via online platforms, including Zoom and other technologies. Candidates must be able to demonstrate competence using these technologies.
Salary Information: The expected salary upon hire is $66,107.
