Description:
Reporting to the Associate Controller, the Senior Accountant will be responsible for processing all plant and capital fund related journal entries, processing all fixed asset related journal entries and reconciliations, preparation and maintenance of all bond drawdowns and supporting documents, reconciliation of various benefit accounts and providing support to the Associate Controller and other Directors as needed.
Characteristic duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Primary financial contact between Finance and Plant Department
• Review and process all plant and capital journal entries, including workorders.
• Maintain supporting documentation for all project fund budgets and review all check requests, purchase orders and contracts for items charged to Plant Funds to ensure expense is proper and within budget.
• Review of all capital accounts and certain expenditure accounts to determine if the expense should be capitalized.
• Maintain all fixed assets schedules and supporting documents.
• Maintain equipment schedules and tag and inventory to ensure compliance with University policy.
• Monthly reconciliation of all capital accounts and other plant related expense accounts.
• Responsible for reviewing deletions on an annual basis in relation to the physical inventory of fixed asset equipment.
• Responsible for manually calculating and recording of annual depreciation expense.
• Prepare bond draw down requests, which includes packaging and maintenance of all supporting documentation.
• Financial Statement functional allocations of interest, depreciation, and plant to be performed at year-end.
• Reconciliation of various accounts, including benefit liability accounts, community events, insurance, etc.
• Daily reconciliation and drawdown of federal direct lending funds.
• Assist with external and internal reporting as directed.
• Assist with the review and documentation of internal processes and procedures and recommend process improvements as appropriate.
• Assists with and provides input regarding system improvement.
• Uses independent judgement to plan, prioritize and organize a diversified workload.
• Provides support to department Directors as needed.
• Other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree required and CPA preferred.
• A minimum of 3-5 years related experience preferably within higher education.
• Experience with enterprise financial systems; experience with Banner/Ellucian preferred.
• Team player with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency in Word, Excel and Outlook required.
• Proven ability to work within fast-paced deadline driven environment
