Assistant Director for Career Engagement

The Assistant Director for Career Engagement supports students through the development and promotion of internships and other forms of experiential learning.  They are responsible for the management of a centralized internship program serving all majors.  The position involves direct student advising.  

 

 

 

Responsibilities:

 

  • Internship program administration and development; administer and expand the IWU Internship Program for all academic terms; establish a working relationship with local and regional organizations and businesses to develop new internship opportunities; coordinate application procedures; develop appropriate training and evaluation measures for ensuring program accountability and quality.

     

    Career counseling; advise IWU students on the career experiences stage; present seminars and outreach programs covering a variety of career-related topics; help interpret career assessments used to assist students in the career development process.

     

    Career engagement; develop additional career engagement opportunities; strengthen existing job shadow program by increasing database of participants; explore opportunities for new ways to promote and engage students in job shadows, informational interviewing and alumni networking. 

     

    Seminars and outreach programming; connect with Gateway instructors and other faculty to present to classes.

     

    Grant administration; develop and submit annual grant proposal for the Illinois Cooperative Work Study Grant through IBHE; manage, administer and track grant funds and monthly intern payroll; cultivate and maintain relationships with community grant partners; comply with grant requirements by submitting quarterly and final reports, and coordinating annual audit of grant financial records.

     

 

Requirements:

 

  • Bachelor’s required, Master’s degree preferred; work experience may substitute if it relates to the responsibilities of the position.

     

    Three years’ experience, particularly in career development practices, recruiting and program administration.

     

    Valid Driver’s License.

     

    Local travel is occasionally required.
