The Department of Civil Engineering in the College of Engineering, Design and Computing at the University of Colorado Denver invites applications for multiple non-tenure track Clinical Teaching Track positions at the level of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor in support of our goal to integrate, education, innovation, and engagement across the department and college. We seek a diverse cohort of scholars with training or experience in one or more cross-cutting themes, including (but not limited to) construction, data science, artificial intelligence (AI), or broadening participation and their interaction with various civil engineering specialties including geographic information systems (GIS); geotechnical; hydrological, environmental, and sustainability (HESE); structural; and transportation. Our most pressing needs include expertise in geotechnical engineering and construction engineering.   Applicants who bridge multiple disciplines within the department or across campus are preferred.

Successful candidates will be responsible for developing and teaching courses in their areas of expertise, as well as collaborating with others to develop and teach interdisciplinary courses.  We seek colleagues who will work to make CU Denver welcoming to students, faculty, and collaborators from diverse backgrounds, so we can achieve our full potential as a Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) and an Asian American Native American Pacific Islander Serving Institution (AANAPISI).

About the Department

The civil engineering department has 10 full time tenured and tenure track faculty, 5 clinical teaching track, and many part time lecturers.  The department offers undergraduate and graduate degrees, including masters and doctoral, in civil engineering, construction engineering management, and construction management.  While the civil engineering program has been accredited continuously since its inception, the newly formed construction disciplines have yet to be reviewed.  In 2020, the department had 121 graduate students and 23 certificate students while the undergraduate disciplines had 209 students.

Salary and Benefits

The salary range for this position has been established at:

Instructor, CTT: $50,000-$60,000

Sr. Instructor, CTT: $55,000-$65,000

Principal Instructor, CTT: $60,000-$70,000

Assistant Professor, CTT: $65,000-$75,000

          Associate Professor, CTT: $70,000-$80,000

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Minimum Qualifications:

Instructor, CTT: Master’s degree in Civil Engineering or closely related field

Sr. Instructor, CTT: Master’s degree in Civil Engineering or closely related field

Principal Instructor, CTT: Master’s degree in Civil Engineering or closely related field

Assistant Professor, CTT: Ph.D. in Civil Engineering or closely related field

Associate Professor, CTT: Ph.D. in Civil Engineering or closely related field

Preferred Qualifications (All Ranks):

  • Teaching experience at both the undergraduate and graduate levels
  • Experience advising and mentoring students
  • Experience in course and curriculum development
  • Evidence of interdisciplinary collaborations
  • Scholarly research skills and experience
  • Experience in professional engineering practice and intent to become a Colorado Licensed Engineer
