Position Overview:

The Human Environmental Sciences -Human Development and Family Science visiting professor provides a quality learning experience for students. The visiting professor serves as a teacher and facilitator of learning, and will perform instructor-related responsibilities in a timely manner. The visiting professor is expected to deliver an educational experience to students consistent with the mission, policies and procedures of the college. Teaching and departmental/school service is expected, as well as specific service to the to the college and department’s support of online delivery. This is a one-semester Visiting Assistant Professor position.

The Human Environmental Sciences Department is seeking a quality educator to serve our students in some combination of online and face-to-face classes. Faculty’s primary responsibilities for teaching will be connected to those courses needed for the Marriage and Family Therapy degree path, and other courses as needed. Courses taught may include Family Theories, Lifespan Development, Families in Crisis, Marriage and Intimate Relationships, and Ethics in Family Studies. Teaches a course load of 12 credit hours for the semester, advises and mentors Marriage and Family Therapy students, evaluates student performance and maintains department records in accordance with university policies. The candidate must hold an active Marriage and Family Therapy license in the state of Oklahoma. The successful candidate will have an excellent knowledge of Marriage and Family Therapy Oklahoma state licensure policies and procedures and maintains strong ties to the Marriage and Family profession and community. Also, the successful candidate will adhere to the educational philosophy of the university, and work in a collaborative matter with colleagues, members of professional organizations, and community leaders in the Marriage and Family Therapy field. Excellence in teaching and demonstrated and/or potentially for scholarly activity is requested.

Teaches, advises and mentors students, evaluates student performance, and maintains department and student records in accordance with university policies. Adheres to the educational philosophy of the university. Works in a collaborative manner with colleagues and professional peers. Participates in university meetings that relate specifically to faculty. Serves on department, college, and university committees as requested. Prepares departmental reports as requested. Engages in teaching, service, and scholarly and/or creative activities as defined by the tenure and promotion policy in the UCO Employee and Faculty Handbook.

This position is for Spring 2022 term only.

Qualifications

Experience Required:

Teaching, research, departmental/school and university service is expected. An earned doctorate degree awarded by a regionally accredited or internationally recognized institution in the field of Marriage and Family Therapy (exceptions require Academic Affairs approval). **NOTE** If the doctorate is not obtained and submitted by the time of employment, the position rank will change to Visiting Instructor. Experience with D2L and other online learning platforms. Possess excellent communication, problem solving, and organizational skills.

Experience Preferred:

Teaching in face-to-face and online experience preferred. Experienced with the Oklahoma licensure process in Marriage and Family Therapy.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Training and research in the area of Marriage and Family Therapy, Family Relations, Human Growth and Development.

Physical Demands:

Repetitive movement of hands and fingers – typing and/or writing. Frequent standing, and/or sitting. Occasional walking, stopping, kneeling or crouching. Reach with hands and arms. Visually identify, observe an assess. Ability to communicate with supervisor/students/colleagues. Regular physical attendance required. The physical demands and work environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
